Exclusive: ‘Shadowhunter Academy’ Narrator Devon Bostick Talks ‘Nerve-Wracking’ Audiobook Experience and Simon Lewis

Welcome to the Shadowhunter fandom, Devon Bostick. You’re certainly not a mundane anymore.

We’ve got an exclusive interview with that audiobook narrator of Welcome to Shadowhunter Academy (and star of the epic CW show The 100), Devon Bostick, as he talks about his “nerve-wracking” experience voicing an audiobook for the first time, how he relates to Simon and how he’d have liked to portray Simon in the film.

Hey, Devon. In case you didn’t know The Mortal Instruments is headed to the small screen and the role of Simon Lewis is up for grabs. Just thought we’d let you know. Let’s just get one thing straight: I don’t think I could handle Jasper dying on The 100, but you’d make an excellent Simon Lewis.

Welcome to Shadowhunter Academy is now available on audiobook and eBook format.

‘The 100′ star Devon Bostick to Narrate ‘Welcome to Shadowhunter Academy’

Cassandra Clare shared some exciting news about who will be narrating Welcome to Shadowhunter Academy.

The 100 star Devon Bostick, who plays Jasper on The CW hit show, will serve as audiobook narrator for the first installment of Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy.

Here’s what Cassie and Sarah Rees Brennan had to fangirl about say:

SARAH: Jasper from the 100! I’m so excited! I love the 100.

CASSIE: I know, score. *fistbump*

SARAH: My FAVORITE Jasper scene from the 100 was when Jasper hugs Bellamy.

CASSIE: Don’t remember that scene…

SARAH: Bellamy saved his life and Jasper hugged him so tightly!

CASSIE: Oh, sure. And then Bellamy swept him up in his arms and dramatically shut the spaceship door and who knows what happened inside… Why do you always make stuff up?

SARAH: I never make stuff up!

CASSIE: You told me there was a novel where Mr Darcy was a Navy SEAL.

SARAH: In a better world, that would’ve been true!

CASSIE: You can’t make up saucy stuff about our audiobook readers, Rees Brennan. I’m watching you. Watching you!

… Anyway, we are so thrilled, both because we watch and love the 100, and because Devon Bostick does such a great job as Jasper: a nerdy guy who loves a lady who loves another… yet who is extremely brave, kind, and valiantly rescues his team when they are in trouble. (Sound familiar?)

So we are sure he will be a perfect fit for our introduction to Simon Lewis, Shadowhunter in training: in some ways a different guy to the guy we knew—the guy he became—through the Mortal Instruments. We lost that guy, the TMI characters lost that guy, Simon himself lost that guy… and now Simon has to work out if he can get him back.

Plus we get to see how Shadowhunters are trained, with knife throwing, horse riding, good-lookin’ fellow students, terrifying teachers, and guest lecturer Isabelle Lightwood…

We hope you’re excited for what we and Devon Bostick have in store for you.

As fans of The 100 we’re super excited to have Devon narrating!

Here’s what Clare had to say about both Sophie and Jason:

“Sophie Turner is wonderful at imbuing young characters with humanity and feeling, and that’s why I thought she would be a perfect narrator for City of Heavenly Fire,” Clare told EW in an exclusive statement. “And Jason Dohring can turn on a dime from vulnerable to sinister, which is a wonderful quality in an audiobook reader.”

Jamie Bamber to narrate ‘The Last Stand of the New York Institute’ audiobook

Jamie BamberJamie Bamber, known for Battlestar Galactica, will narrate the audiobook of the second to last installment of The Bane ChroniclesThe Last Stand of the New York Institute, which was released earlier this month.

Cassandra Clare shared the news:

As the Bane Chronicles draws to a close, I know you’re all worried. Can we really keep up our excellent track record of Hot Guys Reading You Stories? I’m happy to announce that we can.

The actor who will be reading The Last Stand of the New York Institute, the second-last Bane Chronicle, is… Jamie Bamber. You may know him from Battlestar Galactica. (Captain Apollo!) Sarah, who has a creepily encyclopaedic knowledge of Hot British Actors, loves him from the Hornblower TV series in which apparently Jamie Bamber wore a very poofy white shirt, had a lot of feelings and served in His Majesty’s navy. I don’t ask questions.

We are so excited to have Jamie Bamber onboard, and can’t wait to hear his interpretations of Magnus, Luke, Valentine, Jocelyn…and Stephen Herondale.

We cannot wait to hear Jamie voice the latest Bane Chronicles installment!

Listen: Jordan Gavaris narrates eighth ‘Bane Chronicles’ audiobook

20131112-105322.jpgThe eighth installment of The Bane Chronicles — What to Buy the Shadowhunter Who Has Everything (And Who You’re Not Officially Dating Anyway) – was released on Tuesday, and Entertainment Weekly has some exclusive audiobook content.

Head over to EW.com to listen to a snippet of the audiobook read by Jordan Gavaris (of Orphan Black) and listen to a chat between Cassandra Clare and Gavaris.

Jordan Gavaris to narrate next ‘Bane Chronicles’ audiobook

Cassandra Clare has shared some exciting news about the audiobook narrator for What to Buy the Shadowhunter Who Has Everything (And Who You’re Not Officially Dating Anyway). Shadowhunters, welcome Jordan Gavaris (of Orphan Black) to The Bane Chronicles family!

Hello! Cute boy got your attention? I am zipping by in the middle of editing to announce that Jordan Gavaris of Orphan Black will be reading the next of the Bane Chronicles. If you haven’t seen Orphan Black, Jordan’s character Felix is one of the most fantastic things about an already fantastic show with amazing performances, and we’re so happy to have Jordan reading what might be the funniest of the Bane Chronicles installments: What to Buy the Shadowhunter Who Has Everything. In which Magnus angsts, calls Ragnor, and seeks advice from a tentacled demon about his love life.

Look out for an interview where I chat with Jordan about reading the Bane Chronicles and also angle for Orphan Black spoilers. (If you aren’t watching it, you should be! Sarah RB turned me onto it and I am grateful enough to forgive her for the stunt she pulled in Italy with the bat.)

Welcome, Jordan. :)

The eighth installment of The Bane Chronicles, written by Cassandra Clare and Sarah Rees Brennan, will be released on Tuesday, November 19. Here’s the synopsis:

Magnus Bane may or may not be dating Alec Lightwood, but he definitely needs to find him the perfect birthday present.

Set in the time between City of Ashes and City of Glass, warlock Magnus Bane is determined to find the best birthday present possible for Alec Lightwood, the Shadowhunter he may or may not be dating. And he’s also got to deal with the demon he’s conjured up for a very irritating client . . .

Here’s what George had to say about recording:

“The recording process, quite honestly, has been terrifying in amongst being incredibly rewarding. It’s kind of amazing that an author gets to let you take their work and give voice to these characters that they’ve created. You have a feeling of immense responsibility and you don’t want to get it wrong.”

Jesse Williams talks narrating THE BANE CHRONICLES with Hollywood Crush

Jesse Williams spoke with Hollywood Crush about narrating the first installment of The Bane Chronicles, What Really Happened in Peru, which was released yesterday.

In the interview he talks about ” his stint as a narrator, the challenge of trying something new, his great respect for the work of authors Cassandra Clare and Sarah Rees Brennan, and what he likes best about Magnus Bane.”

Click image to watch video/listen to interview at MTV.com

“Because there’s just so much drama and tension on ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ it’s refreshing to do something a little lighter, funnier, a little more varied,” Jesse said of the opportunity to read “The Bane Chronicles.” And while this is the actor’s first foray into this type of voice work, he says that he’s by no means new to the wonderful world of young-adult literature.

“Storybooks were always a big part of my imagination, and my childhood and adolescence,” he explained. “It’s nice to be the storyteller in a different way.”

And in addition to praising the great writing in “The Bane Chronicles,” Jesse also said that he got a real kick out of the book’s main man: Magnus Bane, the cavalier warlock who cameos in every book from Cassanda Clare’s Shadowhunter series. (Hint: For the serious actor, it’s the character’s “devil-may-care attitude” that won him over.) Want to hear all Jesse’s thoughts on his first outing in the audiobook world? You know what to do!
