Cassandra Clare shares ‘Born to Endless Night’ snippets

TSFA-FB-CoverphotoFasten your seatbelts, Malec shippers, because Cassandra Clare has posted a few very special snippets from her upcoming Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy installment Born to Endless Night. In case you don’t know this is the ebook with the baby :)

Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy snippet — Malec

You all have been especially awesome lately so … skipping ahead a bit in Tales From, the story Born to Endless Night, in which Magnus and Alec visit the Academy, find an abandoned warlock baby, some students get crushes on Magnus, and Alec makes some tough decisions.

“Vampires are gross and dead, werewolves are gross and hairy, and fairies are treacherous and would sleep with your mom,” said Julie. “Warlocks are the sexy Downworlders. Think about it. They all have daddy issues. And Magnus Bane is the sexiest of them all. He can be High Warlock of my pants.”
“Uh, Magnus has a boyfriend,” said Simon.
There was a frightening glint in Julie’s eye. “There some mountains you still want to climb, even though there are ‘No Trespassing’ signs up.”

Simon collapsed at his lunch table. “I just walked in on Alec and Magnus … you know.”
“What? Where? When? How? Did Magnus seem like an athletic yet tender lover?” Julie demanded.
“Julie!” said Beatriz.
“Thank you, Beatriz,” said Simon.
“Don’t say a word, Simon,” said Beatriz. “Not until I have acquired a pen and paper so I can write down everything you say. I’m sorry, Simon, but they are famous, and celebrities have to bear with this interest in their love lives. They’re like Brangelina.”
“They are not like Brangelina,” Simon said. “What would you even call that? Algnus? That sounds like a foot disease.”
“Obviously, you would call it Malec,” said Beatriz. “Are you stupid, Simon?”
“I will not be distracted!” said Julie. “Does Magnus have piercings? Of course he does, when would he miss an opportunity to shine?”

“I just thought…” Alec said. “Well, I guess I never expected anything like this to happen before we got married.”
“What?” said Magnus.
Alec just stared up at him. One long, strong archer’s hand was dangling into the baby’s crib, but Alec was intent on Magnus, his dark blue eyes darker than ever in the shadows, one look from Alec more important than a kiss from anyone else. Magnus saw he meant it.
“Alec,” he said. “My Alec. You have to know that’s impossible.”

Born to Endless Night was co-written by Cassie and Sarah Rees Brennan and will be released on October 20.

Harry Shum Jr. Cast as Magnus Bane in ‘Shadowhunters’

The High Warlock of Brooklyn has arrived in all of glittery glory! And Shadowhunters has gone out with a bang with its castings of series regulars.

Glee alum Harry Shum Jr. has been cast as Magnus Bane in ABC Family’s adaptation of Cassandra Clare’s best-selling The Mortal Instruments, the network announced on Friday.

Our High Warlock of Brooklyn is described as someone “with eccentric style, he’s fierce, cunning and keeps his cards close to his chest. Though he looks like he’s in his 20s, he’s hundreds of years old – which makes him wiser and wary of others.”

Here’s the press release the network sent out:

Burbank, CA (May 8, 2015) – ABC Family rounds out their cast for “Shadowhunters” with a little magic in the casting of Harry Shum Jr. (“Glee”) as ‘Magnus Bane.’ It was announced today by the network.

Based on the bestselling young adult fantasy book series The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare, “Shadowhunters” follows 18-year-old Clary Fray, who finds out on her birthday that she is not who she thinks she is but rather comes from a long line of Shadowhunters – human-angel hybrids who hunt down demons. When her mother, Jocelyn, is kidnapped, Clary is thrown into the world of demon hunting with mysterious Shadowhunter Jace and her best friend, Simon. Now living among faeries, warlocks, vampires and werewolves, Clary begins a journey of self-discovery as she learns more about her past and what her future may hold.

Magnus Bane is the high warlock of Brooklyn. With eccentric style, he’s fierce, cunning and keeps his cards close to his chest. Though he looks like he’s in his 20s, he’s hundreds of years old – which makes him wiser and wary of others.

“Shadowhunters” is produced by Constantin Film and executive produced by Ed Decter and McG. McG will also direct the first episode. The network has previously announced series regulars Katherine McNamara as ‘Clary Fray,’ Dominic Sherwood as ‘Jace Wayland,’ Alberto Rosende as ‘Simon,’ Emeraude Toubia as ‘Isabelle Lightwood,’ Matthew Daddario as ‘Alec Lightwood’ and Isaiah Mustafa as ‘Luke Garroway.’ Alan Van Sprang was announced earlier today as a recurring guest star in the role of ‘Valentine.’

Earlier today, Alan Van Sprang joined the show as Valentine Morgenstern.

Shadowhunters begins filming on May 25 in Toronto and will premiere in early 2016 on ABC Family.

Here’s what Cassandra Clare had to say about working on The Bane Chronicles:

Maureen and Sarah and I had a blast working on the Bane Chronicles. It was a fun, fantastic experience filled with terrible green jokes about Ragnor, sexy audiobook readers, and of course, lots of time spent with Magnus, which is always a good thing. Thanks so much to everyone for your support of TBC!

New ‘Bane Chronicles’ snippet: ‘What to Buy the Shadowhunter Who Has Everything’

TBC8Cassandra Clare shared a snippet from the next installment of The Bane ChroniclesWhat to Buy the Shadowhunter Who Has Everything (And Who You’re Not Officially Dating Anyway), which will be released on November 19.

Clare also teased an “awesome” audiobook narrator for the eighth Bane Chronicles installment. “I think you guys will be pleased!” she wrote.

Check out the snippet:

“How have you been keeping? You know, since the last time you summoned me,” said Elyaas, the demon.

“What?” Magnus asked.

“You don’t remember me?” said the tentacle demon.

“I summon a lot of demons,” Magnus said weakly.

There was a long pause. Magnus stared into the bottom of his coffee cup and desperately willed more coffee to appear. This was something a lot of mundanes did too, but Magnus had one up on those suckers. His mug did slowly fill again, until it was brimming with rich dark liquid. He sipped and looked at Elyaas, who was shifting uncomfortably from tentacle to tentacle.

“Well,” said Elyaas. “This is awkward.”

“It’s nothing personal,” said Magnus.

“Maybe if I jogged your memory,” Elyaas suggested helpfully. “You summoned me when you were searching for a demon who cursed a Shadowhunter? Bill Herondale?”

“Will Herondale,” said Magnus.

Elyaas snapped his tentacles as if they were fingers. “I knew it was something like that.”

“You know,” Magnus said, enlightened, “I think I do remember. I’m sorry about that. I realized right away that you weren’t the demon I was looking for. You looked kind of blue in one of the drawings, but obviously you are not blue, and I was wasting your time. You were pretty understanding about it.”

“Think nothing of it.” Elyaas waved a tentacle. “These things happen. And I can look blue. You know, in the right light.”

“Lighting’s important, it’s true,” said Magnus.

“So whatever happened with Bill Herondale and that curse a blue demon put on him?” The cecaelia demon’s interest seemed genuine.

“Will Herondale,” Magnus said again. “It’s actually rather a long story.”

“You know, sometimes we demons pretend we’re cursing people and we don’t really do it,” said Elyaas chattily. “Like, just for kicks? It’s kind of a thing with us. Did you know that?”

“You could have mentioned it a century or two ago,” Magnus observed frostily.

Elyaas shook his head, smiling a slime-bedecked smile. “The old pretend-to-curse. It’s a classic. Very funny.” He appeared to notice Magnus’s unimpressed expression for the first time. “Not from your perspective, of course.”

“It wasn’t funny for Bill Herondale!” said Magnus. “Oh, damn it. Now you’ve got me doing it.”

Godfrey Gao talks playing a bisexual warlock in ‘THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS’

Godfrey Gao as Magnus Bane

Godfrey Gao as Magnus Bane

Godfrey Gao spoke with The Straits Times about playing bisexual warlock Magnus Bane in The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.

To embrace the sexual deviant he was playing on-screen, Gao was open to anything that was thrown at him on the film set. For starters, his make-up routine took three hours each day before he was camera ready. Glitter, nail polish, piercings, tattoos and tons of eyeshadow were just some of the “funky stuff” he had to put on. Then there was a scene he had to shoot in icy temperatures – with only his boxers on. But freezing his behind off for The Mortal Instruments, which opens here on Aug 22, was completely worth it.

Gao, 28, told The New Paper over the phone from Taiwan: “It was around 1 deg C and we were filming in Toronto last September. “I really wanted to cry, I was freezing. Being that naked, I caught a cold eventually. But the crew did take care of me. They kept offering me hot chocolate, tea, chocolate buns and candies. That made the entire experience bearable.”
