‘Shadowhunter Chronicles’ calendar: Alec + Magnus take February

Cassandra Clare and Cassandra Jean are collaborating on a Shadowhunter Chronicles-inspired calendar featuring the boys of The Mortal Instruments, The Infernal Devices, The Dark Artifices and TLH. Yesterday, she shared January’s image (Jem). Today, she shared February, which features Alec and Magnus.

More calendar art! So the beautiful Cassandra (NOT me, Cassandra Jean) and I have been collaborating to create a calendar of the TMI/TID/TDA/TLH boys — Men of the Shadowhunter Universe, I guess — and while I don’t know what we’re going to do with it yet, here’s Magnus/Alec as February 2014, celebrating Valentine’s Day*. More soon!

*But not, like, the way Valentine celebrates it.

What do you think? Who are you looking forward to seeing next in the Men of the Shadowhunter Universe calendar? Sound off in the comments!

Watch: Kevin Zegers and Godfrey Gao tease more Malec in ‘CITY OF ASHES’

In a recent interview at the Mexico press junket for The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, Kevin Zegers and Godfrey Gao talked about their characters in The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, as well as teased more Malec in The Mortal Instruments: City of Asheswhich begins filming in the fall. Malec talk starts around the 2:50 mark.

“We don’t know,” said Kevin Zegers. “They’re still writing the script right now, but I would say yes.  I’ve read a rough draft and there’s definitely a lot of stuff with the two of us. There’s also a lot of action, but there’s definitely more ‘Malec’ in the second film.”

‘Malec’ the best YA modern day couple?

image

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and hypable has made a list of the ‘best modern day couples in young adult fiction’. They’ve picked 6 literary couples and one beloved couple from Cassandra Clare’s THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS has made it on the list:

Alec Lightwood and Magnus Bane!

Here’s what hyable had to say about Alec and Magnus:

Alec and Magnus from ‘The Mortal Instruments’ Series

These guys are the ultimate power couple. One is a kick ass shadowhunter, and the other is the High Warlock of Brooklyn. Together they join the Downworlders and Shadowhunters in a way not everyone appreciates. Magnus is flirty and fun while Alec is a little more reserved about the relationship, but each has a love that knows no bounds.  While things may seem rocky for this couple now I think everyone holds out hope that they will be reunited.

Do you agree with them and who is your favourite THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS couple? Sound off in the comments.

Cassandra Jean’s ‘love’ tarot card

In the past days Cassandra Clare has shared a lot of tarot cards of characters from her SHADOWHUNTER CHRONICLES. All these cards are created by the artist Cassandra Jean who has also drawn a Magnus Bane and Woolsey Scott picture for one of Cassie’s previous CLOCKWORK PRINCESS snippets.

Clare has once again taken to her tumblr to show her fans a new tarot card and this time we can see 4 characters from THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS:

There is a bit of a phenomenon when it comes to one of the couples in THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS.

Of course there are many different people that you can ship in both THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS and THE INFERNAL DEVICES. For instance if you brought up the subject “Will vs Jem” there is no doubt in my mind there would be three different sides to that ship. The Will side, the Jem side, and the side that shuts themselves in a dark room rocking back an forth begging you not to make them choose.

However there is one “ship” that it seems like everyone can agree on. Malec.

If you have never heard this word before (then that is amazing first of all and give yourself a pat on the back!) then let me explain. The “shipping” or relationship, name for Magnus Bane and Alec Lightwood is combined into the one word, Malec.

Magnus and Alec are not the normal couple that you would see everyone loving but everywhere you look on comments, tumblr, twitter, etc , you will find that the majority of people that read THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS love Magnus and Alec’s relationship.

I asked on tumblr and twitter, why people thought Magnus and Alec’s relationship was so popular in the fandom, these were just some of the responses:

First photo of Alec & Magnus revealed

Remember that special surprise Cassandra Clare was working on getting fans?

Turns out not only was it hard to get, but it’s one that fans have been anxiously waiting for since filming began back in August.

The first photo of Alec and Magnus.

Malec, ladies and gentlemen:

Of course it’s only a shot of their hands, but we’re not complaining.

Tune Tuesday: ‘Start of Something Good’ by Daughtry

Every Tuesday here at The Mortal Instruments Source is Tune Tuesday,  where we share a song that relates to The Mortal Instruments or The Infernal Devices.

This week’s Tune Tuesday was inspired by the awesomeness that is Malec.

“Start of Something Good” by Daughtry

These are the lyrics of the song that really stuck out:

“You never know when you’re gonna meet someone
And your whole wide world in a moment comes undone
You’re just walking around and suddenly
Everything that you thought that you knew about love is gone

You find out it’s all been wrong
And all my scars don’t seem to matter anymore
Cause they led me here to you

I know that its gonna take sometime
I’ve got to admit that the thought has crossed my mind
This might end up like it should
And I’m gonna say what I need to say
And hope to god that it don’t scare you away
Don’t wanna be misunderstood
But I’m starting to believe that this could be the start of something good”

Here is a Malec snippet from Kissed, an outtake scene about Alec and Magnus’ first kiss:

Cassandra Clare posts Alec and Magnus’ first kiss scene

Cassandra Clare shares Alec and Magnus' first kiss.

Cassandra Clare has come through on her promise.

Fans voted and elected to have Clare share a Magnus and Alec hookup scene in “City of Ashes” also known as ‘how Alec got all those hickeys’ when fans got Clare to 30,000 Twitter followers.

Without further ado, here it is:

It was printed on thin paper, nearly parchment, in a thin, elegant, spidery hand. It announced a gathering at the humble home of Magnus the Magnificent Warlock, and promised attendees “a rapturous evening of delights beyond your wildest imaginings.” —City of Bones

Standing in the stairwell of Magnus’ home, Alec stared at the name written under the buzzer on the wall. BANE. The name didn’t really seem to suit Magnus, he thought, not now that he knew him. If you could really be said to know someone when you’d attended one of their parties, once, and then they’d saved your life later but hadn’t really hung around to be thanked. But the name Magnus Bane made him think of a towering sort of figure, with huge shoulders and formal purple warlock’s robes, calling down fire and lightning. Not Magnus himself, who was more of a cross between a panther and a demented elf.

Alec took a deep breath and let it out. Well, he’d come this far; he might as well go on. The bare lightbulb hanging overhead cast sweeping shadows as he reached forward and pressed the buzzer.

A moment later a voice echoed through the stairwell. “WHO CALLS UPON THE HIGH WARLOCK?”

“Er,” Alec said. “It’s me. I mean, Alec. Alec Lightwood.”

Head over to Clare’s official website to finish the scene.

Cassandra Clare to reward ‘Mortal Instruments’ fans with Malec scene

“Mortal Instruments” fans have spoken and now they shall be rewarded.

Author Cassandra Clare pitched a challenge to her fans earlier in the week which involved upping her Twitter followers count to 30,000.

Mission accomplished.

The reward?

Fans’ choice.

Clare posted a poll, which saw thousands of responses, that included Will’s perspective on the holy water scene in “Clockwork Angel,” Magnus and Alec’s hookup in “City of Ashes” (or how Alec got all those hickeys), Jace’s perspective on manor house scene in “City of Glass” or Jem’s perspective on mizpah scene in “Clockwork Angel.”

Throughout voting it was a deadlock between Will and the holy water and the Malec hookup. Ultimately, the Malec scene took the top honor (Clare noted that the scene would be from Alec’s perspective).

But don’t fret, Will fans. Clare promised that once she hits 35,000 (she’s 657 away not that I’m counting or anything), she will unleash the Will scene on us.

Well, first she has to write it.

But we all know it will be worth the wait.
