Thoughts on Valentine?

Jonathan Rhys Meyers is set to star in a supernatural thriller

Jonathan Rhys Meyers will play Valentine Morgenstern in CITY OF BONES.

According to the Spanish news site Fotogrammas, our beloved villain, Jonathan Rhys Meyers is set to star in director Isabel Coixet’s next movie: PANDA EYES.  Sophie Turner from GAMES OF THRONES is also expexted to appear along with Jonathan Rhys Meyers. Filming is set to start in Cardiff, Wales after Isabel Coixet finishes her latest project.

“Panda Eyes” is described as “a supernatural thriller that plays tricks with the mind and raises questions about just how unique we are.” It’s been adapted from Cathy MacPhail’s novel “Another Me”. The young adult book is about a teenage girl who starts noticing strange things, including a possible doppelganger following her around

No offical confimation has been made on how Jonathan will be able to squeeze in this thriller project along with the  CITY OF BONES and DRACULA filming schedules.

Seems like Jonathan is heading down a dark path with plenty of opportunities to practice his villain skills.
Will you be looking out for Jonathan’s upcoming – scary – movies?
Sounds off in the comments!

Movie Monday: Taking care of the secondary characters in the film

Every Monday here at The Mortal Instruments Source is Movie Monday, where we talk about one of the many topics involving the movie adaptation of “City of Bones.”

Will the secondary characters and their storylines be taken care of in the film adaptation?

Now that we have our two leads in Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell Bower, our attention has shifted to the secondary characters in The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.

Right now Screen Gems is busy casting the secondary characters and, while we don’t yet have a casting for any of those secondary characters, I got to thinking about just how important those characters will be in the first film adaptation, City of Bones.

Of course that’s already, for the most part, decided by the screenwriter (Jessica Postigo) but scripts constantly change during production and ultimately the director (Scott Charles Stewart) will dictate that.

While we haven’t gotten a glimpse at the script, I think we can all assume that Clary and Jace will be well taken care of in the film.

I know I’m not alone when I say that I hope that Simon, Alec, Isabelle, Magnus, Luke, Hodge–and let’s not forget about Church and Chairman Meow!–are all well represented and their individual storylines are able to shine through.

Why should we be confident that it will all work out?

Two words: Cassandra. Clare.

Clare was able to weave together the Mortal Instruments world and its characters so that their story arcs all connect, thus reassuring us that the integral relationships and the events associated with them (Clary & Simon, Jace & Alec, Alec & Magnus, Clary & Magnus, Clary & Luke, Clary & Jocelyn, Simon & Isabelle, Isabelle & Alec, Hodge & the kids, Hodge & Valentine, Jocelyn & Valentine, etc.) will all be honored as the story–and (hopefully) future films and their stories–wouldn’t make sense without it.

And because I couldn’t resist, here’s a little Alec and Magnus fan video:

Movie Monday: How would ‘Mortal Instruments’ fare at the MTV Movie Awards?

Lily Collins at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards.

After watching Sunday’s MTV Movie Awards I couldn’t help but think that two years from now that “The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones” could be nominated for, well, pretty much every category.

While the movie is still in pre-production, things should be picking up quickly for this best-selling book series-turning-movie franchise.

A not-so-random thought: this time next year we might be anticipating a first look at “The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones” movie. Just how exciting is that thought?!

I got to wondering how “City of Bones” would fare against this year’s nominees.

So let’s pretend that “City of Bones” was nominated for this year’s awards. I want you guys to cast your vote and let’s see how “City of Bones” stands against the competition.

Let’s take a look at the categories:

Best Movie: “The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones”

The question becomes, can “The Mortal Instruments” take on the force that is “Twilight” and its fans? Heck, yes. Not only does “Mortal Instruments” have that breathtaking romance but it has a intriguing and conflicted plot that pushes the characters to the edge. And it has the one thing that none of the other nominees has…Jace Wayland.
