Movie Monday: Will ‘Mortal Instruments’ have a presence at Comic Con in 2012?

Every Monday here at The Mortal Instruments Source is Movie Monday, where we talk about one of the many topics involving the movie adaptation of “City of Bones.”

Comic Con 2011 is in the books.

There were plenty of Young Adult books turned movies/television in representation, including Twilight, The Hunger Games, The Vampire Diaries and The Nine Lives of Chloe King, to name a few.

Will 'Mortal Instruments' have a presence at Comic Con 2012?

After looking at what Twilight and The Hunger Games did, I began to wonder if The Mortal Instruments would be represented at Comic Con in 2012 and who it might play out.

While The Hunger Games (Mar. 23, 2012) didn’t have a huge presence (no cast or producers), their marketing campaign was in full swing.

Lionsgate had a special booth where fans could get full-sized movie posters and collectible Mockingjay pins and excitement for the series was definitely palpable.

I could see Mortal Instruments going the Twilight route at Comic Con (before I get torched let me explain).

When Twilight made its first Comic Con appearance back in July 2008, no one had any idea of how big the franchise would grow. At that time, the first film was scheduled to be released in November of 2008.

There was already a fair amount of buzz and excitement surrounding the adaptation and after their Comic Con appearance, everything changed for the better.

A large audience was treated to a Q & A session with the cast and crew and was also presented three clips from the movie.

While we aren’t receiving any distinct casting news at present, the producers and casting director are hard at work finding the perfect actors to portray these important characters.

But if everything remains on schedule, filming should begin in October or November of this year and I would guess at a Fall 2012 release date for the City of Bones movie.

This would work out perfectly for Comic Con.

Screen Gems and Mortal Instruments could hold a panel similar to what Twilight did where cast members can talk about the film and their characters. Exclusive clips could be presented and valuable marketing merchandise could be had.

It’s a possibility that will have any Mortal Instruments fan giddy with anticipation and excitement.

If Mortal Instruments is at Comic Con 2012, I am so there. Who’s with me?

  1. Oh, that would be so awesome! I’d love for City of Bones to get as much hype as Twilight and to go on to be as big a hit. I love Twilight but I have to say, TMI has replaced it as my favourite source. Lots of angst but a hell of a lot more laughs, and a better mythology. (please don’t lynch me Twihards!)

  2. I couldn’t agree with you more, Alyssa. It would be great if it turned out that way!
I would like to believe that it is a big possibility; let’s just hope that Screen Gems begin filming by November! I hope….
Also, I’m so with Jen – although I’m a Twilight-fan, TMI kicks Twilight’s ass in every way :)!
