Shadowhunters (TV Show)
Back in 2009, Constantin Film and Unique Features acquired the rights to Cassandra Clare’s international bestselling The Mortal Instruments series. While a feature film based on the first book, City of Bones, was released in August 2013, it failed to launch a film franchise.
In October 2014, Constantin Film announced its plans to revive The Mortal Instruments as a television series. Ed Decter will serve as show runner on the one-hour long drama. Production on the series is set for 2015. The show will be titled Shadowhunters.
On March 30, 2015 it was confirmed that Shadowhunters will air on ABC Family. The series has been given a 13-episode, straight-to-series order for its first season. Production ran from May through October in Toronto. The series will premiere on Tuesday, January 12 at 9pm on Freeform.
SYNOPSIS
Based on the bestselling young adult fantasy book series The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare, “Shadowhunters” follows 18-year-old Clary Fray, who finds out on her birthday that she is not who she thinks she is but rather comes from a long line of Shadowhunters – human-angel hybrids who hunt down demons. When her mother Jocelyn is kidnapped, Clary is thrown into the world of demon hunting with mysterious Shadowhunter Jace and her best friend, Simon. Now living among faeries, warlocks, vampires and werewolves, Clary begins a journey of self-discovery as she learns more about her past and what her future may hold.
