Movie Monday: Fans sound off on why Lily Collins is perfect for Clary

Every Monday here at The Mortal Instruments Source is Movie Monday, where we talk about one of the many topics involving the movie adaptation of “City of Bones.”

With book to film adaptations, there is no escaping the fan criticism that comes with casting these essentially un-castable characters (ahem, Jamie Campbell Bower critics).

Butwhen Lily Collins was cast as our lead heroine Clary Fray back in December 2010, there wasn’t a lot of angst but rather excitement.

And that excitement continues to grow as does Collins’ roles in other films.

Recently, fans sounded off on why they believe Collins will make a great Clary (as part of our giveaway to win a copy of Teen Vogue, which boasts Lily on the cover). Check out some of the best responses below:

“Clary Fray is described as a petite girl with carrot coloured hair. She looks frail and young but her personality is vibrant and bold. She is a Shadowhunter and is a tough cookie when she wants to be. Lily Collins is an actress who, according to me, would fit this role perfectly. Plus she has awesome chemistry with Jamie Campbell Bower who is set to play Jace, her complicated love interest. She is already building up her sword fighting skills for another movie and this will help her in her portrayal of a strong Shadowhunter.” -Deesha A.

“Lily Colins would make a great Clary Fray because, you have to admit, she sounds really genuine and excited about all her movies. That would mean that she’d put her all into being the perfect Clary–after all, she already has the look! It also helps that she hasn’t been in any movies that have been major franchises yet (you just know that there will be whole set of Mortal Instruments films!) i.e Harry Potter. The Harry Potter movies were great and all, but it’s easier to imagine Lily as Clary Fray, because when you’re watching the movie you won’t think “that’s Hermione up there, acting as Clary”–you’ll think, “that’s Clary Fray and Jace Wayland and this movie is SO COOL!” -Simmi

“I don’t think she will make a good Clary. I think she will make an amazing Clary. She is an outstanding actress who always tries her best to capture all the emotions her character has to struggle with. She is very talented, determined and dedicated to her job. She loves the books and she’ll put a lot of heart into this role. And I truly believe her performance will be stunning.” -Marta

“Lily is a very good actress and has had a lot of experience doing different characters. Since she’s had that experience, it will be easier for her to get into Clary’s complex character and bring her to life. Lily has a similar personality to Clary and that will really allow her to play Clary fully.” -Ellie

With filming scheduled to begin in January, Mortal Instruments fans are getting one step closer tho seeing Collins’ portrayal of our favorite heroine.
