Clary, Tessa lead nominations for YA Sisterhood’s ‘Tournament of Heroines’

Clary Fray (Mortal Instruments) and Tessa Gray (Infernal Devices) are currently No. 1 and No. 3, respectively, in nominations for YA Sisterhood’s ‘Tournament of Heroines,’ the site’s latest literary character tournament.

Clary tops the more than 70 heroines nominated by fans with 731 votes. Katniss Everdeen of The Hunger Games is in second with 664 votes. Tessa rounds out the top 3 with 484 votes. Isabelle Lightwood (Mortal Instruments) rounded out the top 5 with 282 votes.

YA Sisterhood defines what a true heroine is:

A heroine is a female character who is admired for her noble qualities. We think it’s someone who meets the world head on. This doesn’t mean she has to be a hardcore girl who can beat up anyone who crosses her path (though those girls certainly qualify). Your favorite can be anyone you admire, for any reason. The important thing is that she is extraordinary in some way or another– be that the way she handles other people, her inexhaustible humor, or her skill with a crossbow. We encourage you to think outside the box! Search your bookshelves for the female characters who inspire you, who make you want to be better, who prove that our world doesn’t have to be a man’s world.

Nominations close at 12:01 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 24.

The first round of matches will be held Dec. 1.

  1. CLARY ALL THE WAY!!!! I love Katniss, but Clary and the plot of the book is more complex to me…therefore more entertaining…… Katniss is perceived to be cold calculating and manipulating, and she can certainly take down almost anyone, but Clary’s weaknesses are what makes her a good character…….. Katniss lost basically everything in the third book, but that’s at the end so it does not count……….. Clary, however had a great power she never knew she had and her mother hid it from her whole life, she HID A PART OF HER…….. That creates a pathway for character relationship building between Clary and Jace, if Clary knew about all this she wold probably not be as interested in Jace and his world…………. Also the fact that in City of Fallen Angels Jace and Clary had a chance to build their relationship before Jace turned over to the dark side creates probable cause to suspect that Clary may join them……. look at the teasers and put two and two but add x because you are not entirely sure what will happen
