Cassandra Clare gives her pick for ‘Entertainer of the Year,’ plus favorite YA books of 2011

Entertainment Weekly (EW.com) asked bestselling author Cassandra Clare for her pick for ‘Entertainer of the Year,’ as well as her favorite Young Adult books of 2011.

Check out what she had to say:

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: If you had to pick one personal favorite entertainer of the year, who would it be and why?
Cassandra Clare: I’m going to go with my imaginary movie boyfriend Robert Downey Jr. I love him. He’s so great, and I was so happy to see him doing all these amazing projects. And he’s Sherlock Holmes and Jude Law is Watson! Sherlock Holmes is one of the things I read when I was really young, and they imprinted on my consciousness. I think that’s a huge part of why I love Victorian England so much. When I found out about [the casting], I think I was on a bus. I was reading a magazine, and I turned to my best friend and screamed! I’m so excited about the new movie coming out, and I loved the previous one. So I guess for me, it would have to be Robert Downey Jr.

And what about your favorite YA book of 2011?
There’s two, and it’s really tough to pick one. One is Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor. It’s set in Prague and has to do with angels and magic, and a really lovable main character. I really love that. And the other one is called Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson. It has to do with a girl who moves to London — so it fulfills my London love — just at the time that a rash of imitation Jack the Ripper killings start going on. She winds up, of course, investigating them. And the question is, is this Jack the Ripper and has he returned? Or is he a copycat killer?
