Weekly Movie News Recap: ‘City of Bones’ Gets a Summer 2013 Release Date
Fans of Cassandra Clare’s bestselling The Mortal Instruments series have been some of the most patient when it comes to movie news regarding the adaptation of City of Bones.
They were rewarded with a slew of movie news this past week, which included the announcement of a summer 2013 release, which is usually the final step before getting an official green light.
Here is a recap of this week’s movie news:
- Release Date: The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones will hit theaters on August 2013, which gives director Harald Zwart a year and four months to cast, shoot and edit the film.
- Distributor: Sony’s Screen Gems will distribute City of Bones, after originally bowing out of the project. It looks like they didn’t want to let this next Hollywood superfranchise get away twice.
- Production Designer: Emmy-nominated Francois Seguin, known for his work on The Borgias, will serve as production designer on City of Bones.
- Casting Director: Cassandra Clare revealed that, while it comes as no surprise, the studio has hired a casting director–Stephanie–and she’s currently working on casting.
- Casting Roles: Clare also revealed that casting is underway for all roles, not just Simon. Said Clare, “…there’s a definite concentration on European and British actors for the Shadowhunters, which I like as it underlines the feeling that they are not quite like the culture that surrounds them.”
- Location Scouting: Last week, director Harald Zwart and his production team scouted locations around Toronto and New York. One location they were looking for? “The Institute,” said Clare.
- JCB training for Jace role: Last week in an interview following the Empire Awards, Jamie Campbell Bower revealed that he is in “major physical training” six days a week in preparation for his role as Shadowhuner Jace Wayland. This put to rest rumors that he is no longer attached to the project.
- Book to Screen: MTV revealed five scenes they can’t wait to see translated from book to screen in the City of Bones movie, which included Pandemonium (the scene that started it all), Magnus’ party and that infamous greenhouse scene among others.
