Casting Talk: James Adam Lim auditions for Magnus
Moments after I published my last post regarding David Sakurai auditioning for Magnus Bane, I received a tweet from Los Angeles-based actor James Adam Lim regarding his audition for Magnus.
Lim has held roles in several films, including Dead Inside and Siege of Fulton Ave., and has also worked in theater.
Lim joins what is indeed a long list of actors–well over 100–actors who have auditioned for Magnus.
Others that have auditioned that we know about are: Shannon Kook, Simon Raymond, Ross Butler, Ben Cho, Osric Chau, Austin Ku and Sakurai.
What do you think of the actors that have auditioned for Magnus so far? Who is your favorite? Sound off in the comments!

Ew. Again.
Is amazing, everyone wants Magnus. Though I want Shannon.
Possibly. But I prefer Shannon 😀
Shannon definitely!
10000 actors audtioning for Magnus…nice
It’s amazing just how many people want the role of Magnus. I hope that the people will choose the actor well because I’m expecting the actor to portray him well. He’s on of my favourite characters
agree!
NO.#TeamShannon 🙂
Still love Shannon more.
No Mr. Sakurai should definitely take the role! He is too awesome!
James Adam Lim!! He is amazing~ definitely want to see more of him and his talent on the silver screen!
And the guy they finally picked was:
Some Taiwanese actor no one knows and who acted like he was reading cue cards.
By the way as far as I know Kook was rejected for the role of Magnus because he “looked too Korean”. Well apparently both the casters and Clare had no problem with Magnus being portrayed by a guy of full Chinese descent (yeah I know they say his mother is from Malaysia but as far as I know she is Peranakan Chinese, so whatever Malay ancestors there are, they are very far down the line, but hey many consider guys like Keanu Reeves mixed despite him being as white as can be so I guess for the makers and many fans Gao still counts as mixed).
Seriously, Kook at least had a chance of having recent Dutch ancestors while Gao had nothing like that. If Magnus’s “racial” background was so important, why didn’t they at least restrict it to actual Hapas instead of just wanting “Asian”? Oh right silly me, because for Clare Magnus is “Asian” first (not really since he talks like a modern day American Anglo-guy and would he be real he would be mixed both physically and culturally) and everything else later. It clearly shows in her statements about him.
I guess it’s best that Kook wasn’t in City of Bones and instead stared in The Conjuring, where he was a supporting role granted, but he was, once again, portrayed as smart and desirable. And let’s face it, be smart and hot is what he does best.
