Cassandra Clare answers fan questions about ‘Infernal Devices’
Cassandra Clare has always been more than generous when it comes to interacting with her readers especially when it comes to answering fan questions.
Clare took to Tumblr to discuss the latest round of Infernal Devices questions submitted by fans.
On Will & Tessa:
Um… it’s always darkest before the dawn? Every rose has its thorn? Live every week like it’s shark week? *Headscratch* My darlings, you know I love you. You also know I cannot in any way tell you anything about what happens in Clockwork Princess. That includes saying whether you will be happy or sad or hinting what to be hopeful about. I believe it’s my job as a writer to keep you uneasy and wondering. Otherwise it’s the equivalent of making a horror movie, having a scene where the heroine is about to descend some creaky stairs into a dark basement, and inserting a frame before it that says “DON’T WORRY NOTHING WILL HAPPEN IN THE BASEMENT.”
You should fear the basement. That’s what it’s for.*
*Also keeping old prom dresses in.
On discovering what Tessa is and who she ends up with:
Yes, you will find out what Tessa is and who she ends up with. I think it would be a big cheat if not. There are some things you don’t need to know because the story isn’t about them (why Magnus was banned from Peru, who everyone saw in City of Glass when they saw the person they loved most, what memories everyone gave up in CoLS) and in fact, the story is better if you don’t know. But the story of Tessa is the story of a girl finding out what she is, so you do need to find that out. And since the epilogue takes place in 2007, I wouldn’t even know how to go about hiding who she ends up with!
On the possibility of Tessa ending up with no one:
She could totally not wind up with anyone, or she could wind up with someone unexpected. It doesn’t have to be Will or Jem/
On discovering the identity of Brother Zachariah:
Well, you’ll find out who Zachariah is in either CP2 or CoHF. This whole “He’s Will or Jem” thing is just a theory though. In fact, it’s just a tumblr theory! I never get email from people theorizing this! It’s interesting how it works.
On continuing The Infernal Devices:
Definitely not. That’s not to say I wouldn’t do another historical. Maybe even the next generation after the characters of TiD. But TiD ends, and I mean ends. TMI was supposed to spin off into graphic novels and therefore left some open threads. TiD doesn’t leave any. Remember, the epilogue takes place in 2007. We’ll know everything that happened to these characters. Everything.

I wanna find out why Magnus was banned from Peru too. I also REALLY wanna find out who Tessa ends up with (fingers crossed that she ends up with Will) and I don’t care that she is ending TID. Brother Zachariah is a character everyone wants to know about, like what his true identity is and all and I PRAY we find out his identity.
P.S PLEASE PRAY THAT TESSA ENDS UP WITH WILL , BUT JEM ALSO HAS A HAPPY ENDING!

Gawd, after reading that I’m afraid we’re in for a sadder ending than we thought! And by that I mean maybe Tessa and Will don’t end up together after all, seeing as Tessa’s immortal and all that. March better come quick, or I may go mad!

i’d love to know why mangus was banned from peru and i think tessa up maybe end w upwith will or will will end up with some. jem will too. maybe Tessa has kids with both of them or she ends up with one them and then another in epilouge
I think Tessa ends up with Will, and Jem becomes Brother Zachariah. My theory is that the Silent Brothers have some secret magic that lets them live indefinitely, which would work even on someone with Jem’s problems.
I don’t like it, but I have a feeling…Jems dies and will becomes brother Zachariah. I don’t know why, but I see Tessa alone… for a while..

If she doesn’t end up with Will…Then I will kill someone. I’m not usually like this, but seriously. Will is P E R F E C T! Ah, the things I would do to that man if he was real….lol, jk. but seriously, if she doesn’t end up with Will……I shall die.
I have a strange feeling she’ll end up with Gabriel….Cuz Cassandra Clare said she might not end up with either. And in other books Tessa said Gabriel was handsome…sooo, yea. That’s my theory.

I think Brother Zachariah IS Jem because…
1. His eye colour is dark like Jem’s
2. His hair colour is Dark and Jem’s is described as Black but it could fade like ours (hence why we use hair dye)
*after becoming a Silent Brother, the demon blood was taken out of him and his eye and hair colour was restored (maybe his hair colour faded)*
3. Bro Z said that there were two people who he would have died for (or something like that) and Jem loves Tessa and Will the most (Tessa his fiancée and Will his parabati {sorry, cant spell})
*i’m confident that Bro Z is NOT Will because Will has BLUE eyes and Will has many people he loves (Tessa, Jem, Cecily {hope I spelled her name right} etc. {probably})*

I have to disagree. First, where do you guys get that Bro Z’s eyes are like Jem’s? We can’t see the silent brothers’ eyes… they’re closed. Second, Jem’s hair is silver not dark. Third, Will loved two people too. So, my prediction is that Bro Z is Will because
1. Will loved to read and study which is what the silent brothers do.
2. Bro Z said he had no children which would make since if he was Will because Cassandra Clare’s new series called Dark artifices is about a young girl named Emma Carstairs which is Jem’s last name and must be a descendant. Which would make Jace Herondale a descendant of Will’s little sister. And since it sounds like Tessa might be half shadowhunter, that would mean she could in fact have children of her own and have a child with Jem. … and if Tessa and Jem stay together, I can totally see Will running off to be a silent brother. Poor Will if that’s true!
But, I do have to say I wish Bro Z was Jem… That would mean that being a silent brother saved his life and that Tessa and Will could be together guilt free. But, I have a feeling we are not going to get the ending we want.
That’s true, but Bro Z isn’t like other Silent Brothers, Clary says she can see some DARK hair under his hood and I remember something about Bro Z’s eyes being DARK and in CP, Charlotte talks about Jem having DARK hair and eyes before he started taking the yin fen. Women usually take their husbands last name and in those days I think all women would take their husbands last name (unlike now) so Cecily would take her husband’s last name, plus she has Black hair and Blue eyes, she could end up with Gabriel and that’s how Alec got his hair and eye colour. As for the children bit, Bro Z could be lying. I found it on a website but I can’t seem to find it.
you know…..jem could end up with wills sister cecily – its a possibility. Also i wonder what happens to jessamine in clockwork princess and gabriel. Ive gotta say gideon and sophie are the cutest together 🙂
Eek? Tbh i dont mind tid ending.. With a new series comin out? And im pretty sure all our questions will be answerd this comin march2013. Just like Miss Clare said. I just hope no one dies..:( i wish Tessa ends up with Will. I wish Jem’s not goin to die.. And I think he’s not cuz he is Brother Z cuz they found a cure and thats becomin a Silent Brother. I have honestly thought both will and jem make perfect candidates for brother zacariah as I have thought of gabreil or gideon lightwood mainly in hbopes they make peace with will and know what he’d means to the future light wood families……could be none of them but the suspense is absolutley killing me!
