From Downworld to Reality #2: The Frenzy Begins
From Downworld to Reality is a THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: CITY OF BONES movie blog that chronicles the film-making process from a fan’s perspective
The excitement from the first day of filming on THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: CITY OF BONES was palpable hours before the cameras even started rolling.
It was a moment nearly three years in the making and fans were enjoying every moment of it.
First came the photos of the actors’ trailers, which had everyone–including myself–fangirling like crazy.
But that was only the beginning. Then filming updates from Sandra (@Shadowhunting) started pouring in as fans hung on to her every word as she described the actors’ appearances and the set. Already this was more than we were expecting.
Then the first photos from the photogs appeared, which showed a red-headed Lily Collins as Clary Fray laughing it up between takes. This was the moment when it got
Just when fans thought their racing hearts couldn’t take any more. This was the moment that it got real. There were our Shadowhunters–Jace, Clary, Alec and Isabelle–proving that Shadowhunters really do look better in black. The sight of runes and seraph blades sent the fandom into a frenzy.
Then more fans arrived on set to live-tweet from the set–including two of our Toronto Correspondents Allie (@msalliehayman) and Humility (@humilityc) and set reports soon followed, detailing scenes that were being filmed and the actors’ chemistry in between takes.
For those that were still alive after the events earlier in the day, the rest of the day was spent fangirling and staring at the many set photos from the day.
Honestly, I expected the excitement and a little bit of scoop from set, but I was not prepared for the madness that ensued. And it was only the first day of about 60-90 in the film-making process.
On Tuesday, filming resumes in St. James’ Cemetery and more fans will be making their way to the set, as will hopefully the photogs.
What does Day 2 on the CITY OF BONES set entail? Strap in, Shadowhunters, because it’s going to be an exciting ride.
