Movie Monday #19: Taki’s Diner
We are less than a year away from the theatrical release of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones and the hype for the adaptation of the internationally best selling series by Cassandra Clare will only continue to grow as the release draws nearer.
I’ve banded together with other Mortal Instruments fansites (TMI Institute, Mundie Moms,TMI Examiner and TMI News en Espanol) for a weekly feature called Movie Monday.
Each Monday leading up to the August 23, 2013, release of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, we will take a look at a scene, moment, detail, etc. and give our opinions on how we think it will be interpreted in the big screen adaptation.
Week 19: Taki’s Diner
Alyssa, TMI Source: In the book, Taki’s Diner serves as the transition from what Clary learns at the City of Bones to Magnus’ party where she learns some truths about her past. It’s where Isabelle mentions Magnus’ party when his name pops up and it also serves as comic relief for the story and a bit of down time before the action picks back up. We also get a look at a variety of different creatures in THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS. Of course there are other ways that the film could get around Taki’s to transition between scenes, but as a fan of the book I really hope that Taki’s makes the cut. But realistically Taki’s is one of the scenes I can see getting cut from the film adaptation as it doesn’t serve a significant role to the plot.
Amber, TMI Institute: I clearly envision Taki’s when I think of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. There are things I visualize when I consider this scene. The first thing are the food and drinks. Will we see faerie food? Perhaps someone munching on a faerie plum? Will there be a vampire ordering from the blood section on the back of the menu? I do hope Kaelie is in the scene. I’d love to see Clary’s face as she eyes Kaelie and Jace together. Here’s hoping it makes the cut!
Tita, TMI News en Español: The Dinner at Taki’s is a funny scene. We find it at beginning of chapter 11, where Simon, Izzy, Alec, Jace and Clary plan to visit Magnus Bane. It’s going to be really funny to see this scene come to live, and hear our favorite characters talk about the special menu at the restaurant… My question now is, is there going to be a girl, or more specifically Kaelie, so we’ll be able to see Jace making jelous to Clary?? I guess it’s a scene where the studio can play a lot with it, and I can’t wait to see what they are going to do 🙂

I hope they keep the Taki’s scene in the movie its an easy way to introduce the world that Shadowhunters live in. 🙂
i hope they keep the scene! it would be a good and funny transition scene and I’d love to hear Jace’s denial of the story of how he rant naked down new york after the fariie blood intake and how clary reacts to jace and kalie!
i think its a fifty fifty chance. it doesnt serve to plot but because this movie is being toted to those who know nothing of this world its a good way to entertain the ‘mundanes’ til they catch up with the story. the producers have even said they are making the film for ‘everyone’ to understand. what appeases everyone more than seeing many different kinds of races(or creatures). star trek, dr. who, star wars, twilight…..
I hope they keep Taki’s in the movie, even if it’s a brief moment. Taki’s is right under Mundanes noses and is guarded by huge downworlders. It would be a great scene for Simon and Clary as they come face to face with several strange downworlders and their food. The scene would add to the feeling that the Shadowhunters world is not Normal. Also its a good place For Shadowhunters to meet between battles. Lol
