Film Friday #1: Becoming the next ‘Big Thing’
Every Friday we take a look at varying topics relating to the film adaptation of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.
The first thing you hear when a Young Adult book franchise is optioned and moves through the adaptation process is this series can be the next Harry Potter/Twilight/Hunger Games.
It’s unfair to compare book series to one another as each series is unlike any other.
When people ask “Will this series be the next Harry Potter/Twilight/Hunger Games?” what they really mean is will it be the next Big Thing–the next franchise to captivate a global audience and put a stamp on the box office.
Studios are optioning nearly every Young Adult book that hits the market in hopes to find the next Big Thing.
The Mortal Instruments is one of those series–with a realistic chance–at becoming the next Big Thing to hit Hollywood.
It already has a lot of things in place to ensure this: an international bestselling series, a fan-friendly author, a stellar cast, a dedicated studio and a large and devoted fandom that spans the globe.
The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones is nearly a month away from wrapping filming and the hype is already incredibly high and it will only continue to build with the release of stills, characters promos and trailers.
The pieces are in place. Now we just sit back and go along for what’s sure to be quite an exciting ride.

I know that I am totally going to fangirl the fudge out when the first movie trailer or pictures come out! I’ve invested so much into this series that it’s one of those things in my life I am looking forward to the most! 😀
