Film Friday #4: Studio involvement with fans in the movie-making process
Every Friday we take a look at varying topics relating to the film adaptation of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.
When a studio takes on a project that has a massive fan-following it’s a daunting task to adapt a 400-plus page book into a two-hour film that meets the expectations of those involved, the fans and casual moviegoers.
Studios like Summit Entertainment and Lionsgate have proven that catering to fans–and working with them–has led success.
Filming is set to wrap in less than two weeks and already we’ve seen studio involvement with fans.
Executive producer Martin Moszkowicz has been active on Twitter and been sharing photos and answering fan questions and he continues to do so.
Recently Moszkowicz informed fans of a marketing meeting for THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS.
I had a big marketing meeting today. Everybody agreed that TMI has the best fans ever! Sony is handling merchandising worldwide and they know this will a very big one….
Director Harald Zwart, who has both a Twitter and Tumblr, has been sharing secrets from the movie-making process, sharing photos and concept sketches and answering fan questions. And just imagine what we might get once he hits the editing room for post production.
Sony Pictures and Constantin Film have reached out to fansites and invited some of them to Toronto to tour the set and talk with the actors bringing our favorite characters to life, including TMI Source who visited the set back in September.
The crew has also been very friendly with the fans that have found the set in Toronto and watched filming from afar.
With post production set to begin a couple of weeks and things like posters, stills and trailers set to hit Hollywood, I’m sure we can expect a lot more from Moszkowicz, Zwart and the studios in the process.

aw that comment was such a sweet comment and we are! the cast and crew from what I’ve read have been awesome! i can’t wait to see more too!
Seriously everything about this process has been so amazing we have the best author, series, cast, crew, and fandom. Proud to be TMI
