Movie Monday #25: Ravenor demon

We are less than a year away from the theatrical release of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones and the hype for the adaptation of the internationally best selling series by Cassandra Clare will only continue to grow as the release draws nearer.

I’ve banded together with other Mortal Instruments fansites (TMI Institute, Mundie Moms,TMI Examiner and TMI News en Espanol) for a weekly feature called Movie Monday.

Each Monday leading up to the August 23, 2013, release of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, we will take a look at a scene, moment, detail, etc. and give our opinions on how we think it will be interpreted in the big screen adaptation.

Week 25: Ravenor demon

Alyssa, TMI Source: I’m really looking forward to this scene because this is where Clary is thrown into the world of the Shadowhunters and the supernatural. After the events at Pandemonium and at her house with the Ravenor demon, there is no going back for Clary. The thing that fans are probably most concerned with is the CGI and the demons. Lily Collins has said the CGI is going to be amazing so all we can do is trust that director Harald Zwart won’t let us down on that aspect.

Amber, TMI Institute: The ravenor demon is one menacing monster I’m looking forward to seeing when City of Bones premieres (or maybe before if we get the chance). A “long scaled creature with a cluster of black flat eyes (like a mixture of an alligator and a centipede)” …it’s voice is creepy. Lipless mouth…wide jaws…black fluid flows from it’s mouth after it swallows the sensor. I know this is probably something that will be done in CGI, and I’m thrilled to see the final product.

Natalie, TMI Examiner: I’m so excited about this scene. I feel that this is the moment that really shows Clary that something really supernatural is going on. First she dealt with the strange events at Pandemonium but now this happens in association with her mother’s disappearance. It also is what leads to Clary being taken to the Institute. And even though Clary doesn’t know what she is doing, she doe kill the demon making it her first kill and first moment of acting like a Shadowhunter. I think that this could also be a scene that we see parts of in a trailer. It is significant action since it serves as the inciting incident that really pushes Clary into her new world. Just another scene I can’t wait to see!

Tita, TMI News en Español: The ravenor demon… that’s something that intrigues me a lot. How is going to look in the movie?? I had first a metal image of something very creepy, disgusting, large, with a tail, that walks on it’s 4 legs, sticky… I know it’s going to be in the movie, but how it’s going to look? After reading the first part of the CoB graphic novel and seeing the ravenor demon in it, I can’t picture it in any other way, because it was exactly how I pictured it before in my mind, but I’m super curious to see how Harald picture it and I can’t wait to see it!
