Cassandra Clare confirms Raphael is in ‘THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: CITY OF ASHES’

City of Ashes

In every book-to-film adaptation there are changes — that’s a given. Cramming a 500+ page book into a two-hour film is not easy. Some scenes or characters may be cut to accommodate the short time frame. The character that fell victim to that in The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones was vampire Raphael Santiago, as there wasn’t enough time to introduce his character.

Cassandra Clare previously said that Raphael would be introduced in The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes, as we know he plays an integral role in the plot. Cassie confirmed that Raphael is in the City of Ashes screenplay.

We’re just over two months away from the release of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones on Aug. 21, but there is already excitement for the next installment, The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes, which is slated to begin filming in the fall.

Who is your dreamcast for Raphael? How excited are you to see Raphael? Sound off in the comments!

  1. I’m so glad Raphael’s in The City of Ashes!

  2. Now I wonder how they are gonna fix this little problem. I understand he’s gonna appear in movie 2, but how are they gonna explain that he is in fact simons sire, when he doesn’t appear in movie 1 for Simon to bite him? Or are they just gonna leave that detail out, and change it to “simon just bit some vampire” and not make a big deal out of it? :/

yay! i’m curious too. maybe he’ll be in the background and ralphlel will be some vampire,

  4. I know this is an odd choice but I pictured Matheus Fernandes from The Glee Project and American Idol as Raphael. Raphael is young and I just had this vivid image of a short kid leading this big scary vampire clan. Matheus is 4’9″ and looks quite young for his age.

  5. Tyler Posey… all the way through 😀

  6. I don’t know why, but I pictured Dave Franco as Raphael. I know it’s a very weird and random choice, but somehow that’s how my brain processed him to look like haha!

  7. avan jogia defoo

  8. TYLER POSEY FOR RAPHAEL.

  9. My dream cast for Raphael would be Tyler Posey from Teen Wolf. I don’t know why, but he just kinda screams Raphael for me.

  10. i would love to see elyas m’barek back as raphael 🙂 i know he’s only playing a “vampire lieutnant” in COB but why not introduce him more in COA as raphael?

Yeah ur right, I just noticed him when I looked at his picture on Google. I didn’t know he played in there cuz his character was just an extra for a vampire and not some one who was like actively playing in the movie. Yeah, Tyler pose would be a great choice as well as Avan Jogia, but Elyas would be the only one perfect fot that role . And I can picture it now. Plus the can show that he didn’t die like he had some masssive healing thing by a warlock and he could be Raphael. Oh yeah, he has to look 17 or whatever, dam avan joiga would totally be perfect for the role XD .

  11. omg, i have been in love with raphael santiago ever since i started reading the books!!!
