Extra in first editions of ‘City of Heavenly Fire’
The last installment of The Mortal Instruments – City of Heavenly Fire – doesn’t hit the shelves until next May, but we do already know that the first editions will have a little extra inside. Today Cassandra Clare took to her tumblr to ‘reveal’ what fans can expect:
There will be an illustration printed on the inside cover of the North American first editions of City of Heavenly Fire. There are of course two figures on the proper cover of the book, but other characters, some who we’ve never seen on covers before, will be on the inside of the first edition’s jacket.
And that’s all I can say right now …
Cassandra later wrote a post about the extra content in copies from the English publisher Walker Books and also revealed who would design the illustration:
I’m sure Walker UK will want to do something special for CoHF but right now I don’t know what. I have information only about the North American hardback first edition. I don’t have info about anything that might be available in any other language or version or country right now.

What the CoHF special first edition cover offers is basically a chance to see Cliff (the cover artist who has done all my covers) do his take on characters that would otherwise not make it onto covers, especially since this is the last book about them.

We can’t get hardcover of tmi or tid in any of the bookstores that i know of either…

Clare’s book publisher in my country don’t provide the public with those extras, though Clockwork Prince did have Will’s letter and the family tree in Clockwork Princess, (not in the jacket cover, since they’re published with paperback) but only that, and I’m sure that my translated version City of Heavenly Fire will not have this illustration.

I know just as much as you know, but the UK version of Clockwork Princess – which was a paperback – also had the family tree so it’s possible that fans outside the USA/Canada will get the extra as well. We still have months to go so let’s just wait and see 😉

I think we should have all the main characters because it’s the last book and because 6 characters we know by name will die also because most likely there will be a war with shadowhunters vs the people with the other blood like how in COLS they had a short war but most likely there will be another.
I knew it, they are gonna be like two covers… one the main cover with only two, and another one with evebody whose appear before, im Guesing a group Cover Between Simon, Clary, Jace, Izzy, Alec and Magnus!
Don’t get much info in Sydney. Soz don’t know when the first editions are going to be sold.
So unfair I want all that but I don’t think I’ll get them since I live in Greece… 😦

I am being cainpletly honest when i say that had no idea about the cwp2 tree I was. Standing outside of my science class reading and the book jacket slpted off and I was amazed with the tree I hope there is a tree In cohf
My guess is that the people on the front cover will be of the following Tessa & Jace – Tessa & Magnus – Tessa & Clary – Clary & Jace – Clary & Jonathan/Sebastian. But then Jem could be on the cover too. Want a cover with all of them on it. P.S i’m pretty sure there will be an extra part to the books even if u don’t get the north American first edition because in Australia i got a copy of CoFA that had a bonus chapter (Jace & Clary’s first kiss through jace’s eyes).
The original chapter was (the midnight flower). The bonus chapter is (when midnight comes).
