Cover Reveal: ‘City of Heavenly Fire’ coming May 27
It’s finally here! The highly anticipated reveal of the cover for City of Heavenly Fire, the final book in the international bestselling The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare. City of Heavenly Fire will be released on May 27.
The cover was revealed on television on “The Insider.” Clare shared the cover in all of its HQ glory.
So, the nice version of the cover of City of Heavenly Fire that went up on TV yesterday!
Yes, that is Clary and Sebastian. Yes, Clary is wearing white. She does wear white in the book at a certain point. There are interesting details up close about both their weapons, and if you look closely you can see the chain of Clary’s necklace. Remember the covers of the books don’t use the runes from the Codex or that we saw in the movie. They are pretty designs, but they don’t mean anything.

The runes on the covers have always been kind of white, like light shining out from them. And the cover art has never used the runes from the movie so they are sticking to the original swirling rune patterns.
I don’t think you can tell if she is wearing wedding ruins because aren’t they placed over the hearts.
Remember gold is for weddings…
And white is for funerals and death.
Its not a wedding dress because the wedding dress color is gold in the Shadowhunter world.
The shodowhunter’s children’s rhyme says “for death and morning the colors white”

I’m glad they signified the whole brother-sister relationship instead of just same old Jace and Clary again. The book involves Clary turning away which is unique for TMI book covers, because everyone was either facing the front with their head cut off or are turned sideways. The cover is very refreshing; It’s fitting that the villain and heroine are “facing off”. And I agree with pretty much everyone else: the dress and maybe runes must signify death AND purity against evil. Love it and seeing this makes me WANT THE BOOK MORE THAN EVER!

Finally a cover of the brother and sister. I got chills oh my god!! In Hinduism like shadowhunters white is the colour of death. I wear white to funerals, man this can’t be good.
Even seeing a white horse in a dream is said to be presentiment of death.
We already know several characters we know of will die, possibly the white symbolizes death but at the same time innocence and purity. Light over darkness. Meaning even the innocent, the pure will die.
I can’t wait even though I’m scared. I do believe in Cassie, and I believe that she will have a great ending to a great series even if it leaves me in tears.

I can’t breathe… this sooooooo flipping beautiful. I LOVE the whole black and white contrast. Id like to think that this means Clary is going to be facing off her against her demons and hopefully fighting back (hence the dagger she is holding). And the fact that she is wearing a white dress which probably represents mourning as well… wow… please Cassie… just give us this book now. I’m not sure how much longer I can wait… 🙂

I really really like it! It seems very symbolic with clary in white and the golden runes on her I think suggest something like she is more special than we thought. Then Sebastian in the black and darkness. I cannot wait for it to be out!!!

Cassie said Jace was on the inside of the cover. I wonder if those flames on the right side , next to Clary are from Jace’ heavenly Fire. I’m sure Cassie didn’t forgot Jace, and that he is on the inside in all his heavenly glory 🙂

The cover backs up the assumptions I had about the book. I think this time Clary is the one taken by Sebastion and Jace will have to do the rescuing instead of Clary. But Like I said before if Jace or Clary die or they don’t end up together will ruin the book for me.

Another thing that no one has mentioned yet, is that Clary’s dress isn’t JUST white. It’s silk. “White silk for when our bodies burn” is the quote from the childrens rhyme….. Just thought to mention that detail. Maybe it’s CLARY who dies. That would be one heck of a coincidence considering that recently Tris in Allegiant SPOILER ALERT! was a main character who died….
Be quiet you are going to jinx it (joking). Surely Clare wouldn’t do that. I thought Divergent was good but the third book totally ruined the series even though I guessed in the second 1 that she was going to die. But saying stuff like that, you’re going to give people strokes like me.

I think the white Clary is wearing has more than one meaning. We know that she has angel blood in her, and Sebastian/Jonathan has demon blood hence her in white and him shown dark. White is the Shadowhunter mourning color I think that this is for her friends and maybe her mother and Luke who died not Jace. If the two do not end up together or if either Jace or Clary die the story will be ruined for me. As I said before I want to see these two get their Happily Ever After.
Same here. I wouldn’t be able to see the purpose of the books if they don’t end up together. I mean the book is mainly about their struggle to be together plus fighting Valentine. But them not being together at end would make the books pointless to me.

This is beautiful. I hope Clary offs Seb. I honestly do. I also like that she’s wearing white, and Seb dark/black to signify their differences. Good vs. evil, yes, typical but still significant. But we must remember that Clary wasn’t brought up like a Shadowhunter. She may not see white as mourning.
But we won’t know the true reason until we read the book.

Things I noticed about the cover: 1.Sebastian has Black wings ( Clary had a dream about 2 angels fighting…one with black wings, which would be Sebastian and the other with White wings…Jace) 2. Sebastian is wearing the Soul Sword on his back. Clary looks like she has Jace’s Kindjal in her hand. 3. Sebastian is facing Clary, but Clary turns away from him…..probably turning towards Jace in the inside cover. 4. Clary is wearing white for mourning 5.Clary’s runes seem to have rays of light or “Heavenly Fire” coming out of them….as well as being surrounded by Heavenly fire…..hmmmm….Jace must be near…like the insde cover! 5. The city on the left appears to have the Demon Towers so it must be Alicante. The earth looks scorched and dried up???? The city on the right is New York I assume. What do you think of these observations????

wow the cover is so refreshing nothing like the past covers i love it. But we also can’t ignore the fact that clary is wearing white, which as everyone knows is the color of mourning, but maybe she’s wearing a dress made of white silk and if we go back to the snipet of the children’s rhyme we should know that silk is for when the bodies burn.
there is also the fact that clary is surrounded by flames and the rhyme says that flame is for the birth of a nephilim, or it could just be the heavenly fire…… and how she’s facing away from sebastian with her fist clenched holding the daggar that looks like sebastian’s sword there is a lot to take in and his wings how does that come into play anyway can’t whait.
