Emma and Mark talk about love in new ‘The Dark Artifices’ snippet

Cassandra Clare is close to finishing Lady Midnight and she has shared another snippet from the first book in her The Dark Artifices trilogy. In this new snippet Emma Carstairs and Mark Blackthorn talk about Mark’s time with the Wild Hunt and love, but see for yourselves:

“Have I?” asked Mark. “Is this my home?” He looked over at Emma. “I can say this to you because you are not a Blackthorn. You do not have Blackthorn blood running through your veins. I have been in the land of Faerie for years and it is a place where mortal blood is turned to fire. It is a place of beauty and terror beyond what can be imagined here. I have ridden with the Wild Hunt. I have carved a clear path of freedom among the stars and outrun the wind. And now I am asked to walk upon the earth again.”

“You belong where you’re loved,” Emma said. It was something her father had said, something she had always believed. She belonged here because Jules loved her and the children loved her. “Were you loved in Faerie?”

A shadow seemed to come down over Mark’s eyes, like curtains closing in a dark room.

Jace gives advice to Julian in new ‘The Dark Artifices’ snippet

The Dark Artifices

Cassandra Clare has shared a new The Dark Artifices snippet with her fans and it’s a really awesome one because there’s Emma, Julian and one Mister Jace Herondale in it. See for yourselves:

“You’ve got a lot of responsibility now,” Jace said to Julian. “You’ll have to make sure Emma winds up with a guy who deserves her.”

Julian was strangely white-faced. Maybe he was feeling the effects of the ceremony, Emma thought. It had been strong magic; she still felt it sizzling through her blood like champagne bubbles. But Jules looked as if he’d been slapped.

“What about me?” Emma said, quickly. “Don’t I have to make sure Jules winds up with someone who deserves him?”

“Absolutely. I did it for Alec, Alec did it for me — well, actually, he hated Clary at first, but he came around.”

“I bet you didn’t like Magnus much, either,” said Julian, still with the same odd, stiff look on his face.

“Maybe not,” said Jace, “but I never would have said so.”

“Because it would have hurt Alec’s feelings?” Emma asked.

“No,” said Jace, “because Magnus would have turned me into a hat rack.”

There is no release date for Lady Midnight yet.

Some fans are already halfway in love with Mark Blackthorn whom we met in City of Heavenly Fire and Cassandra Clare catered to their needs with sharing a snippet about him:

“Loved?” he said in a cold voice. “Do you no longer? Remember, half-blood, I know  that you can lie.”

Mark flicked his eyes up. He saw the storm in those eyes, but behind the storm he saw two boys as small as stars in a distant sky, locked together under a blanket.

What a mysterious snippet, right? Who do you think are the two boys? Sound off in the comments!

Julian is jealous in new ‘The Dark Artifices’ snippet

Art by Cassandra Jean

Ask and you shall receive (at least this time). A fan and Jemma shipper asked Cassandra Clare for a Julian and Emma snippet and Cassie was kind enough to oblige:

“I know things haven’t been exactly right between us since I got back from England,” he said. “And I don’t know if it’s because I’m a little jealous of Cristina, or a lot jealous of —“

“JULIAN,” Emma said.

Cassie also noted that “it’s not much but i shouldn’t encourage the idea of asking for snippets, i was in the mood though!.

In another recent tumblr post, Cassie talked about the release date for Lady Midnight:

Late 2015/early 2016 is my guess. We are leaving room because we don’t want to end up with a crunch situation like we did with the end of Heavenly Fire. It almost killed like six people at my publisher, as well as me.

Fingers crossed for a late 2015 release date and no almost casualties! We want everyone to be healthy!

Emma and Julian argue in new ‘The Dark Artifices’ snippet

Art by Cassandra Jean

Cassandra Clare’s new Shadowhunter trilogy The Dark Artifices doesn’t have an official release date yet and Cassie certainly knows how to make us even more impatient for Lady Midnight with this new snippet:

“Emma —“

“I’m calling.” Emma lunged for her phone.

“No!” Julian said, forcefully enough to stop her. “You know we can’t tell anyone. About Mark —“

“You’re not going to bleed to death in a car for Mark!”

“No,” he said, looking at her. His eyes were eerily green-blue, the only bright color in the dark interior of the car. “You’re going to fix me.”

Cassie also cautioned her readers about the snippets: “remember nothing is set in stone till publication

What do you think happened to Julian and how is Emma going to fix him? Sound off in the comments.

The Mortal Instruments series is unfortunately over, but we still have The Dark Artifices to look forward to! To make everyone even more excited and impatient for Cassandra Clare’s new Shadowhunter trilogy a new paragraph was added to the synopsis on her website:

Los Angeles. It’s been five years since the events of the Mortal Instruments when Nephilim stood poised on the brink of oblivion and Shadowhunter Emma Carstairs lost her parents. After the blood and violence she witnessed as a child, Emma has dedicated her life to to discovering exactly what it was that killed her parents and getting her revenge.

Raised in the Los Angeles Institute with the Blackthorn family, Emma is paired as a parabatai with her best friend, Julian Blackthorn. A series of murders in the city catch her attention — they seem to have the same characteristics as the deaths of her parents. Could the murderer be the same person? And her attention isn’t the only one caught: someone has been murdering Downworlders as well. The Fair Folk make a deal with the Institute: if the Blackthorns and Emma will investigate the killings, they’ll return Mark Blackthorn to his home. The catch: they have only two weeks to find the killers. Otherwise it’s open war between faeries and Nephilim.

The Shadowhunters of the Institute must race against time to catch the killers, even as they begin to suspect the involvement of those closest to them. At the same time, Emma is falling in love with the one person in the world she’s absolutely forbidden by Shadowhunter Law to love. Set against the glittering backdrop of present-day Los Angeles, Emma must learn to trust her head and her heart as she investigates a demonic plot that stretches from the warlock-run nightclubs of the Sunset Strip to the enchanted sea that pounds the beaches of Santa Monica.

Lady Midnight – the first book in the trilogy – does not have an official release date yet.

Mark doesn’t want to stand out in new ‘Dark Artifices’ snippet

The Dark Artifices art

Cassandra Clare keeps the Dark Artifices snippets coming.

Check out this new snippet from Lady Midnight, the first book in The Dark Artifices, where Mark tells Cristina that he wants to look like his family and doesn’t want to stand out.

Now he looked at her sideways. “You don’t think I look like a Shadowhunter any more?”

“Do you want to?” Cristina asked.

“I want to look like my family,” Mark said. “I cannot have the Blackthorn coloring, but I can look as much like Nephilim as possible. Besides, if I wish to be part of the investigation, I cannot stand out.”

Cristina held back from telling Mark that there was no world in which he didn’t stand out. “I can make you look like a Shadowhunter.”

The Dark ArtificesLady Midnight will be released in 2015/16.

Mark talks about his brothers and sisters in new ‘The Dark Artifices’ snippet

The Dark Artifices artIt’s a new week and we got a new The Dark Artifices snippet by Cassandra Clare.

In today’s snippet from Lady Midnight, Mark Blackthorn talks about his younger brothers and sisters:

Mark whirled on them. His eyes were blind, unseeing. “You bring the twins in front of me and you kill them over and over. My Ty, he doesn’t understand why I can’t save him. You bring me Dru and when she laughs to see the fairytale castle, all ringed round with hedges, you throw her against the thorns until their pierce her small body. And you bid me wash in Octavian’s blood for the blood of an innocent child is magic under the Hill.”

Cassie herself called the snippet ‘grimmish’ and also noted that “not all snippets make it into the finished work but they are parts of later drafts”.

It looks like Mark is confronting someone, maybe a faerie? What are your guesses? Sound off in the comments.

The Dark ArtificesLady Midnight will be released in 2015/16.

Emma reminisces about Julian, their parabatai ritual in new ‘Dark Artifices’ snippet

The Dark Artifices art

Cassandra Clare keeps the Dark Artifices snippets coming.

Check out this new snippet from Lady Midnight, the first book in The Dark Artifices, where Emma reminisces about Julian and their parabatai ritual.

Emma swallowed. She was remembering Julian, two years ago, standing in the overlapping circles of fire where the parabatai ritual was performed. The look on his face as they each stepped into the central circle and the fire rose up around them, and he unbuttoned his shirt to let her touch the stele to his skin and carve the rune that would bind them together for their whole lives. She knew if she just reached out now, she could touch it, touch the rune cut into his shoulder, the rune she had put there …

The Dark ArtificesLady Midnight will be released in 2015/16.

Check out this new snippet from Lady Midnight, the first book in The Dark Artifices, where Julian opens up to Emma.

“Yeah,” he said, eyelashes lowering as his gaze traced the movement of her fingers. “It hurt me being away from you. It feels like there’s a hook dug in under my ribs, and there’s something pulling at the other end. Like I’m tethered to you, no matter the distance.”

The Dark Artifices: Lady Midnight will be released in 2015/16.
