Movie Monday: Setting the Soundtrack for “City of Bones”

What kind of music will be featured in "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones" film adaptation?

Every Monday here at The Mortal Instruments Source is Movie Monday, where we talk about one of the many topics involving the movie adaptation of “City of Bones.”

It’s no secret that music plays an integral role in movies, as it sets the scene, conveys emotion and speaks to the characters and audience alike.

The topic of the soundtrack for the film adaptation of “City of Bones” was discussed in an interview that “The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones” director Scott Charles Stewart did with Collider.

“It’s also a really music influenced movie,” he said, “and so that’s something that’s gonna be really fun, a chance to integrate a lot of contemporary music into the movie.”

It’s been encouraging that Screen Gems is working to keep “Mortal Instruments” author Cassandra Clare involved in the adaptation process. In an interview with Reelz Channel last month, Clare revealed that the studio has been in contact with her about casting, design and, yes, music.

What would be one song that she’d love to see on the “City of Bones” soundtrack?

“I love Thriving Ivory’s  song ‘Angels on the Moon,'” Clare gushed. “Talks about New York City Angels and I think it’s such a great song for series so I’d love to see that.”

Clare also said that both she and Stewart would like to incorporate more indie music to match the New York setting.

“We both have a love of Brooklyn indie bands,” she said. “We talked about making a whole soundtrack basically New York and Brooklyn indie bands, the kind that Clary and Simon would go to see like on a weekend show.”

What do you think? What kind of music would you like to see in the “City of Bones” movie? Do you like the idea about incorporating New York indie bands into the film? Sound off in the comments below!

  7. I honestly think that would be great, but at Magnus’s party, I personally imagined some hard-core rock and a little screamo, I mean we’re talking vampires here, got to be a little bit edgy.

  8. I really liked the fan-made song: Warrior.
It was made specifically for the mortal instruments and i feel like it describes the movie much better than any other song could!
