Lily Collins talks about Clary and Jace’s controversial relationship
One of the more pressing subjects in regards to the adaptation of “The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones” is a certain plot twist that conveys the ultimate forbidden love story.
At the end of “City of Bones,” Clary and Jace learn (and believe at the time) that they are brother and sister, which completely shattered the hearts of readers and equally shocked them.
One line that comes immediately to mind is something that Jace said in “City of Glass.”
“You’re my sister,” he said finally. “My sister, my blood, my family. I should want to protect you”—he laughed soundlessly and without humor—“to protect you from the sort of boys who want to do with you exactly what I want to do.”
As readers of the series, we know how the story plays out. We know that they aren’t brother and sister.
But the question becomes, just how far is Screen Gems willing to push the line of controversial?
Collins chatted with The Fab Life during a press tour for “Priest” where she addressed Clary and Jace’s controversial relationship and how it will pan out on screen.
Vodpod videos no longer available.“I think the studio’s had lots of conversations as well because there’s a fine line,” she said. “A lot of movies deal with topics with a fine line and making sure you don’t spoil things. But also making sure you keep things not so creepy and people aren’t turned off by it.
“I think they’re taking a lot of consideration into that but want to make sure we stay true to the books because they are so amazing and they are what they are.”
In an interview with Reelz Channel last month, Cassandra Clare revealed that the studio had no plans of taking out the incest, though the topic was still a delicate one.
“Don’t take out the incest,” Clare recalled telling screenwriter Jessica Postigo. “[The producers] were like, ‘no, no, we wouldn’t dream of it.’ It’s still in there.”
Collins also addressed the casting of Jace and while she cannot say names (this report gives you the three actors), she confirmed that she’s “been doing some readings.”
Thank you for the spoilers xD haha
I assume the fans have read “City of Bones” lol
now here, i can see Lily as Clary. Very good picture of her!
(Don’t read this if you haven’t read the books) After watching the trailer, I was afraid they were taking out one of the most important plot points. It helps build up the psychological aspect of the story, as well as making it more jaw-dropping and interesting. They can always end it with Valentine rubbing his hands wickedly and saying, “Haha, I was so lying,” which kind of ruins it but it’s better than taking it out completely. It’s also rebellious! Have the non-reading girls drool over Jace, then yank him away! We had to go through it while reading it; the movie should be treated the same.
I’ve read the books and please leave the incest OUT the movies!! Please!!!!!
