Ed Speleers channels his inner Jace in ‘Echo Beach’

Author Note: there is no new news in regards to the Jace casting.

Ed Speleers stared in the British TV series "Echo Beach" in 2008.

Since the three rumored actors in contention for the role of Jace Wayland in "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones" movie adaptation was reported just over a week ago, I've been researching all three actors and their resumes. Ed Speleers, one of those rumored Jace contenders, starred in an British television show, "Echo Beach," back in 2008. The only thing that I have seen Speleers in was "Eragon" so, thanks to a reader pointed me in the direction of the show, I decided to take a peek. From the show's very first episode I saw a little bit of Jace in Speleer's character, Jimmy. He had that cocky arrogance about himself and this confidence that just screamed "I know I'm the hottest thing on this show." He was the bad boy with the sinister, vindictive father (remind anyone of someone?) But it wasn't until episode seven where things got really weird. Turns out Jimmy's girlfriend might be his half sister. Watch the videos below to see how it plays out:

The scene below begins at the 4:45 mark and Ed comes in at the 5:58 mark.

The big reveal, as they say.

The scene begins at the 0:53 mark.

The second part begins at the 5:26 mark.

More of Jimmy’s reaction and a glance at his sinister father.

Then, let’s just say, the beginning of “City of Glass” anyone?

The scene begins at the 0:00 mark.

I thought that Ed showed vulnerability in this scene where he confesses his love for Abby.

If (being the key word) Speleers ends up getting the role of Jace, he’ll have some experience as an actor dealing with the incest issue and a controlling, sinister father.

I think Ed would make a great Jace. He’s certainly got the look and he’s got the acting chops, as well.

I just found the whole thing really ironic. What are your thoughts?

  1. Meh, he has good hair….. but is definitely not intense enough for me. His gaze needs to be much more penetrating….

    Jace devastated? nope.

  2. You gotta give him credit though. He worked with what little talent was around him. Most of those actors were horrid. I think he could turn it up if he tried.

  3. I do like that Spelelers guy way better than Jamie Cambell as Jace Wayland

I think the Speleers guy is a way better actor choice than Jamie cambell as Jace..
