Screen Gems working around actor scheduling before casting continues

The most difficult step in the casting of “The Mortal Instruments” is now complete, with the casting of leads Clary Fray and Jace Wayland in Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell Bower.

But before you get too excited it’s important to note that before casting continues, Screen Gems is going to work around the schedules of Collins and Bower before they cast another character.

The subject came to light when a fan questioned author Cassandra Clare about a rumor that the studio had begun casting Isabelle.

Clare clarified that no further casting will be done until the studio finds a way to work around Collins and Bower’s schedules, so as to inform the other actors when filming will begin and end.

“As far as I know now that the leads are cast the next thing is scheduling,” Clare tweeted, “since scheduling works around Lily and Jamie’s schedules and you can’t go casting other actors until you are able to tell them when exactly they’ll be filming.”

For Collins, the scheduling revolves around her filming “The Brothers Grimm: Snow White,” which is scheduled to begin next month. Principal photography typically lasts three months, so we can assume that filming will wrap on “Snow White” by late October or November at the latest.

For Bower, there has been no official announcement of a second season of the hit Starz series “Camelot,” but producers indicated that if the first season was a success that there would likely be a second. Given that the first season was indeed a success, we can assume that a second season will begin filming. When, though, remains to be seen.

Both Collins and Clare confirmed that the latest filming would begin for “The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones” would be the end of 2011. So either way, there will be filming done this year.

  1. That seems like too far away from now! How are we going to survive LOL?

On the plus side, it gives them:

-more prep time for the movie
-more time to cast the other roles properly
-more time to do stunt/fight training
-more time for Jamie to get that six pack 😉

On the downside, we have to wait:

-5-6 months before getting a glimpse of Jamie/Lily as Jace/Clary
-more than a year before the movie comes out

    • Yea it’s going to be a long wait (it’s agonizing already!) but it will definitely be worth it. At least we know they will begin filming this year. That’s encouraging.

  2. How will they deal with his hair and the two different shows ? All the wigs in Twilight didn’t looks so great.

    • I don’t know how long it takes them to shoot a ten-episode season of Camelot but I’d anticipate they’d wrap that first and then cut Jamie’s hair for TMI and begin filming. Yes, no wigs please. That was awful.

      • As you both said, no wig please! If he does TMI first, they could always work the haircut into the Camelot plot ;).

In the end, TMI is more important so as long as they get his hair right for that I’ll be happy :).
