Simon Lewis makes Hollywood Crush’s list of ‘Most Anticipated Casting Announcements’

Now that we have our Clary and Jace in Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell Bower, casting for the supporting cast of The Mortal Instruments film adaptation is underway.

The character that Screen Gems is busy casting at this moment is one Simon Lewis, Clary’s lovable best friend.

Our friends over at Hollywood Crush composed a list of the “10 Most Anticipated Casting Announcements” from Young Adult books headed to the big screen and Simon made the cut (he was the first one listed, FYI, so props to him).

Here’s the lowdown from Amy Wilkinson:

Character: Simon in “The Mortal Instruments” series
Who is he? Best friend to heroine Clary Fray (Lily Collins), romantic rival to Shadowhunter Jace (Jamie Campbell Bower), rock god extraordinaire (in his dreams)
Latest buzz: Names like Logan Lerman and Asher Book have been bandied about for a while now, but the most intriguing rumor of late (courtesy of Young Adult Fantasy Guide webmaster Stacey O’Neale) is that “Eclipse” star Xavier Samuel auditioned for Jace, and though he didn’t score the role, he made quite an impression on Screen Gems. Could he be a Simon contender? (Personally I think he’s too old and a little too good looking for the part, but I won’t say no to more Xavier in my movies.)

Personally, I don’t really see Xavier as Simon but I completely see him as Sebastian. Let’s face it, the boy was born to play bad.

Right now the producers are working their hardest to find the perfect actor to play Simon, but it won’t be the five-month kind of wait we had to endure for the Jace casting.

Let me just say that Cassandra Clare would wholeheartedly approve of the immense Simon love. Well done, Hollywood Crush.
