'Camelot' will not return for a second season in 2011.

The Starz series Camelot, staring Jamie Campbell Bower, will not film a second season, according to IFTN.com.

According to the site, there were a number of factors in the decision and the studio has ruled out production of season two for 2011.

UPDATED: Entertainment Weekly also reported that the show has been cancelled after one season due to lower ratings than that of its competition in HBO’s Game of Thrones.

While this is bad news for fans of the series, this is good news for the production of the film adaptation of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.

According to a report by TMI France, Cassandra Clare revealed during a signing in France that if there was no second season of Camelot scheduled to shoot, then production on City of Bones should begin in October or November of this year.

As a fan of Camelot I am sad that there won’t be a second season but as a fan of The Mortal Instruments I am excited to see production for the film get underway in the next few months.

What are your thoughts?

  1. Call me selfish but I’m actually glad LOL. This means there is nothing standing in the way of TMI filming in the fall. I guess this means that the studio can now go ahead and start casting the other roles?

  2. I wonder who the cast will be for Alec.

  3. The studio has been looking at casting the supporting cast but now they can give the actors a definitive time frame in which the movie will be filming. So I would expect casting to speed up now if they hope to start filming in October.

  4. I am very much with you on this one, Alyssa: while I am a bit disappointed for Camelot, I couldn’t be happier and more excited that filming for CoB will be starting earlier. It’s great news for all us TMI fans, especially since it also indicates that casting for Simon and the rest of the characters won’t take as long. All in all, fantastic news for everyone :)!

    • This happening essentially gives us a “City of Bones” movie about three months before we would have gotten it had they filmed a second season. I’m sad but excited at the same time. Bittersweet.

  5. Jamie Campbel Bower was one of the main reasons why the show is canceled, because he was awful and people hate him, so how is this good for MI?

    • HAhahahahaha are you kidding me? It got cancelled because he got cast in Mortal Instruments and Eva Green was cast for Dark Shadows so it would be hard for them to balance shooting in US and Ireland almost at the same time. I am very dissapointed because I saw a big potential for this show and Jamie for suprisingly a great actor. I am suprised by the way I like him, but he is becoming a great actor I think and I believe that.

  6. I think the show as a whole wasn’t all that great so let’s not start Jamie bashing. I never saw it but I thought he was fantastic in Sweeney Todd and The Prisoner. I’m glad they can finally get things going with the movie and I for one can’t wait for him to play Jace.

  7. I’m really glad there not doing another season. But I like that show. But I think im more eager to watch the mortal instruments.

  8. Fucking gay, their should be a second season

well what the fuck was the point of watching the first season

  10. i’m very much disappointed because i just got into it after watching the first season and i loved it. nudity, gore, action, good story, great acting. all things i love in this kind of show. what doesn’t make sense to me is why true blood is still on the air when this was so much better.

    • I absoloutely agree with you. I feel exactly the same…doesnt make sense. Angery watcher here.

      • Yes I agree too! Merlin on BBC 1, though good, is no where near the same league as Camelot and I am gutted there will be no second series. I dont know why I bother watching anything, The event, Outcasts etc have all been cancelled after one series. Yet crap like Big Brother is on TV year after year. Its a joke!!!!!!

    • Well If this was on HBO I am pretty sure it would still be on. But at least one other person shares the same idea. This was the best Arthur story telling I saw so far.

  11. not happy about this. I think “Camelot” was well written and well cast. Im a big fan and hate that the series wont continue. NOT a fan of a seiries being canceled that i enjoy. was looking foward to second season.

  12. I am disappointed Camelot will not continue and agree with Natalie, why not ditch big brother instead?? ITS AWFUL!

  13. Gah was looking for the date of return , not this news. we will miss this show. have been looking forward to season 2 since the season final. I think the studio is making a huge mistake in this decision.

  14. I went online to see when the next season started and came across all this. I agree with all the statements, why not cancel some awful reality show and air something better such as this. If it ended because of being up against Game of Thrones I personally think they both could have done well. I would have watched them both myself. Very sad that I cannot continue to watch this story unfold.

  15. I can believe. I just searched up to see when the 2nd season of camelot started because it came on when spartacus ended last year… These are my 2 all time favorite shows!!! Im so upset that this has happened.. ^^^^^^ i agree with the others, cancel a stupid show and air this! I got like 4 ppl hooked on it and now its not airing?!?! Wth

  16. Put season 2 of Camelot back on… I loved it, it had a GREAT story line and everything was really good… i really wanna know what happens next! If y’all aren’t putting another season at least make books for people to read the rest of whats to come

  17. holy cow,,I totally agree there should be less reality retarded shows and more show like camelot to show history in such a fantastic fantasy story line. My entire family was glued to this show and are VERYYY disappointed that it will not continue,, shame on you,,

  18. Camelot was one of the best shows out there. The one and only reason I have starz. So now it’s time to say bye bye to starz. And what is this city of bones even about? I’m very pissed off. Starz will be taken off by me now, so they just lost someone that would of stayed with them because of Camelot.

  19. get rid of big brother cos it is totaley crap and make camelot now you ass holes and why is it beind repeated late at nite on sunday

  20. It’s really sad to see Hollywood lose it’s creativity. Remakes of remakes and crappy reality shows seems to be the norm anymore. And when they do finally get something worth watching it gets cancelled. Sad sad sad. Grow up Hollywood and get a creative brain back

Obviously you are not a real lover of film, while I agree that not all remakes are great, there are enough of them that go way beyond the originals in quality while maintaining the integrity of the original story. If your gonna make them stay true to scope of the story line, while improving on the the effects and other aspects of the film, like sound quality and cast.

I agree that Camelot was a very well done series, and should have been continued. The story line was very well done and the acting was good. The problem with a lot of people critiquing movies now days, is half of those people are not used to watching good movies, because there are so many crappy movies out there. Sometimes you need a new perspective on an old theme and Camelot was that.
