Movie Monday: What might a ‘City of Bones’ teaser trailer look like?

Every Monday here at The Mortal Instruments Source is Movie Monday, where we talk about one of the many topics involving the movie adaptation of “City of Bones.”

They call it a teaser for a reason.

With Lionsgate debuting the teaser trailer for fellow young adult book adaptation hitting the big screen The Hunger Games, I got to thinking about what we might expect of a City of Bones teaser trailer?

What do the fans want to see most?

While Screen Gems is still in pre-production stage of casting and working on set design and other aspects of the film, it’s never too early to begin speculating about what scenes will be included in the film adaptation.

If there is one thing to be said, Screen Gems, take note of what Lionsgate did with The Hunger Games teaser.

It was short but still incredibly impactful. It encompassed the overall feeling of the film while also remaining quite secretive, which provided an air of mystery and kept the viewer wanting more.

So let’s say that Screen Gems takes a similar route with the teaser trailer for City of Bones. Short but impactful.

Might it look something along the lines of this:

The trailer would open on the skyline of New York City at night and then zero-in on the outside of Pandemonium. We get some flashes of outside and inside the nightclub. We zoom in on the back of a teenage girl with long, silky black hair–Isabelle–as she makes her way across the club. She catches the eye of a sinister-looking blue-haired teenage boy who follows after her. Flash to Clary’s face and then back as she watches Jace and Alec as they make their way across the club after Isabelle and the blue-haired demon. Cut to Isabelle and the blue-haired boy in the storage room. Cut to Clary as she makes her way after Jace and Alec. The demon boy prepares to attack but Isabelle pulls out her whip. Back to Clary as she makes her way across the club. “He’s all yours, boys.” As Jace and Alec join them in the storage closet. Back to Clary. Jace: “You know what I am.” Back to Clary. Demon: “Shadowhunter.” Back to Clary as she enters the storage closet. Jace: “Got you.”

Not sure how much footage that Screen Gems would unveil in a teaser. Basically I’d picture that opening scene at Pandemonium edited quite a lot. A lot of quick flashes, nothing too detailed, but still managing to get the point across.
