Tune Tuesday: “Goodbye to the Girl” by David Cook

Every Tuesday here at The Mortal Instruments Source is Tune Tuesday where we share a song that relates to The Mortal Instruments or The Infernal Devices. In honor of the Clockwork Prince book trailer, this week's song is "Goodbye to the Girl" by David Cook. It's no secret that the Clockwork Prince book trailer has been on everyone's minds lately so when this song came on the other day I just knew it was perfect for Will and his feelings for Tessa at the end of Clockwork Angel. I think the lyrics "I can't get over you/I don't know what to do" are perfect in describing Will's feelings and his apprehension toward those feelings. The lyrics: "Oh I've got nowhere to hide/I'd say my goodbye to the girl/I'm leaning on the edge/I'm jumping off the ledge/watching the night do what the light never could" are perfect for describing how Will felt when he thought he had lost Tessa at the end of Clockwork Angel, as well as his pushing her away later on the roof. I just saw the end of Clockwork Angel in my head when this song came on. It's just lovely, somber and heartbreaking. Three words that we often use to describe Will. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGqck0JJz7c "Goodbye To The Girl" by David Cook

Paint another picture black and blue
take another moment, one or two
just to get over you

When did all the gold around us rust?
Turning all the love we had to dust
It took the best of you
it took the best of you

Oh I’ve got nowhere to hide
I’d say my goodbye to the girl
I’m leaning on the edge
I’m jumping off the ledge

Take another picture off the wall
Just another moment, watch it fall
into the ocean blue

Take a look at where we used to be
Now I’m just a vessel lost at see
I can’t get over you
I don’t know what to do

Oh I’ve got nowhere to hide
I’d say my goodbye to the girl
I’m leaning on the edge
I’m jumping off the ledge
watching the night do what the light never could

So tell me I’m crazy
It’s not gonna save me
From holding my breath
‘Til the lines blur

‘Cause I’ve got nowhere to hide
I’d say my goodbye to the girl
Oh, goodbye to the girl

Paint another picture black and blue
Take another moment, one or two

Oh I’ve got nowhere to hide
I’d say my goodbye to the girl
I’m leaning on the edge
I’m jumping off the ledge
Watching the night do what the light never could

So tell me I’m crazy
It’s not gonna save me
From holding my breath
‘Til the lines blur

‘Cause I’ve got nowhere to hide
I’d say my goodbye to the girl
and goodbye to the world

Oh, goodbye to the world
