TMI Source’s 2011 Costume Contest Winners

TMI Source’s First Annual Halloween Costume Contest was a big success. There were so many amazing entries and it was incredibly hard to choose just two winners.

I would like to thank the wonderful Natalie C. Markey (TMI Examiner) and Katie Bartow (Mundie Moms) for helping judge this contest with me. We were all blown away with all of the creative talent in this fandom. And thanks to all of those who entered and for sharing your costumes!

Without further ado, here are the two winners:

WINNER

TAMMY as JOCELYN

“Let’s call it ‘Shadowhunter Jocelyn.’ I was trying to get a picture with the same feel of the book covers.”

Judges Comments

Alyssa Barbieri: “I just love that Tammy chose a character who isn’t one you would expect to win, yet alone show up in a contest like this. Her attention to detail is superb. And those runes are very well done. That she was trying to capture the feel of the Mortal Instruments book covers was too perfect. Congrats to Tammy!”

Natalie C. Markey: “I love it when Mortal Instruments fans play dress up in the fabulous universe that Cassandra Clare created for us to imagine and play in. I get excited when fans take on an original approach by tackling their own shadowhunter or downworlder. However, I really love it when overlooked characters such as Jocelyn and Maia are represented in costume contests. I LOVED Tammy’s winning entry as Jocelyn and I congratulate her on her win.”

Katie Bartow: “I loved seeing someone dressed up as Jocelyn. I think she did a great job at capturing the Jocelyn I pictured in my mind.”

RUNNER-UP

MAGDALENA as ISABELLE

I have dressed up as Shadowhunter Isabelle Lightwood. I have chosen to be Isabelle because she is a girl with a strong personality and also physically, and with the whip and knives seraphim was a disguise quite right for Halloween. In the photos, you can see the runes of: the vision in the right arm; force in the chest; an angel in the neck, and of the alliance in the left arm.

Judges Comments

Alyssa: “Isabelle was without a doubt the most frequent character we came across in this contest. Magdalena’s portrayal of Isabelle was very well done. From the runes to the whip to the clothes. I could definitely see Izzy wearing something like that. Even the background, which might have been intentional or not, just added to the feel of the photo. Congrats to Magdalena!”

Natalie: “Though I do feel that Isabelle is overdone a lot with costume contests, sometimes that costume is done so well and with such detail as is was done with entry 7.”

Katie: “I loved the spunkiness that came through in this costume. I think she did a great job at portraying a younger version of Izzy!”

Katie: “I really enjoyed seeing everyone’s costumes. I thought over all everyone did an awesome job at portraying either a Shadowhunter or Downworlder. I have to say, the runes were my favorite part of the costumes! AWESOME job on those. I’m sure Jace would be pleased. ;)”
