Gabriel Hugoboom addresses rumors surrounding Alec casting speculation
Gabriel Hugoboom is the latest actor to be rumored for a role in The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.
Hugoboom’s name appeared on the Mortal Instruments IMDB page (which has now been removed), which has proven unreliable in the past as anyone with an IMDB Pro account can edit the page.
He recently spoke out about the rumors, claiming that he did in fact audition but for the role of Jace, which hundreds of actors auditioned for.
Cassandra Clare cleared up the rumors even further saying that the studio is not actively casting right now.
There is no truth to it in the sense that they are not casting Alec right now. If he says he auditioned for Jace, I am sure he did! I think over a hundred people did. I also did discuss with the producers a handful of actors who auditioned for Jace but who they thought would be better as Alec, and while GH’s name didn’t come up specifically that doesn’t mean they didn’t discuss it among themselves. But that would have been six, seven months ago, so AFAIK it just means he might be in the mix when/if they start casting Alec in earnest.
Production should pick up once the final script, which is being written by Marlene King, is turned into the studio. King was expected to have turned it in a couple of weeks ago, so Screen Gems could be hard at work now with different aspects of production.

hmm, I can’t really see him as Alec, he looks a bit older.
YOU KNOW WHAT, give him a chance people, i bet he’s perfect, he might not be the perfect image to you but im sure cassandra and everyone else knows what there doing so keep your petty opinions about him not looking young enough or having the right coloured eyes to yourself.
Hmmm…This is a prickly one…I’ve never heard of this dude before so I can’t really say much. I checked him out, and learned that he’s actually a singer/songwriter (always a good thing in my book, but is it relevant when it comes to TMI movies???), so I wonder if he can act?
Looks-wise, I can’t say that he’d be my personal choice for Alec but I trust the producers and Cassie’s judgement, so I’ll just wait and see what happens. It’s good to know that the wheels are in motion 🙂

He’s not an actor and he’s too rugged for Alec. Alec is gay right? So he’s proably looks very smart ON TOP OF being a shadowhunter who needs to be presentable anyway. And he looks way too old. AND HE’S NOT AN ACTOR! After their dubious casting choices so far can they really afford to hire people who aren’t even skilled in this field?

He’s a really good looking guy! Unfortunately, I don’t know anything about him either. You know, he could always dye his hair and wear contacts for the role. Who knows, he may be a good Alec.
I agree, they can change the way they look, you’d have to see him act to know how he’d go really.
I agree with Aundrea on the part about him changing his appearance if needed. But also, looking him up, I couldn’t really find anything on him and acting is a bit necessary for the role. But… if he could pull it off and if they continued in the series, I think we might have a Sebastian ready. He kinda looks it.
There’s nothing dubious about the casting choices so far. They’ve been excellent.
I doubt this guy is a serious contender for the Alec role. Cassie has repeatedly said they are not casting right now and he basically confirmed that.
Cassie said he was one of many people that would make a good Alec, according to the casting people. He has just as much a chance as everyone else who auditioned, and he didn’t even audition for Alec. Let’s not all have a conniption over this guy.
