Cassandra Clare Talks Jamie as Jace, Casting Happenings
Last week there were rumors floating around that Jamie Campbell Bower was no longer attached to The Mortal Instruments.
Even after Bower basically confirmed that he was still attached (in the form of the video below: jump ahead to 8:50!), there were still some questioning it.
Never fear. Queen Cassandra Clare is here to set everyone straight:
Because my ask box is crazy full of questions about this — yes, there have a few (well, one that I know of) articles saying Jamie Campbell-Bower isn’t attached to the City of Bones movie any more.
Jamie is perplexed.
I was perplexed by the rumors as well but I wanted to take the time to check them out completely; I knew they were negotiating Jamie’s contract, but I can tell you after major thorough checking — yes, 100% he is Jace; Lily is ecstatic, I am, the whole team at Constantin is; Jamie has a trainer, he’s been working out six days a week and drinking protein shakes and by all tales told to me looks terrific.
Clare also revealed that they are actively casting. Meaning auditions are happening right now. How exciting!
Stephanie, our casting director, is actively casting the rest of the roles — that means auditions, lists of actors, the whole shebang; I got a peek at some lists and was really excited. You never know how things will shake out, but there were some great actors suggested. I’m excited they’re going to audition.
In sum: Jamie is Jace, nothing has changed, sometimes there are weird rumors on the Internet, I try to be there for you to confirm or deny when I can — if I don’t answer right back it’s because I don’t know and I’m checking.
So even though there was never anything to fear about Jamie not being Jace, it’s still nice to hear the words come from Clare and hear how excited everyone is to see him in the role.

I still wish Alex Pettyfer never turned it down. He would have made it big with this movie.
honestly I was half hoping that they might find Alex Pettyfer to do the role but I guess the training might to something to Jaimes muscle that he doesn’t have yet. So I guess I’m sort of excited but not really

I am so pleased Jamie is playing the part of Jace. He was wonderful in Camelot , Sweeney Todd, Harry Potter and The Twilight Saga, and well in every role he plays… Makes the role his own. He is just such an emotive actor, his facial expressions and body language, his big expressive eyes and deep voice, he is just perfect for the part! When he played Caius in New Moon he was so moody and bored half the time and constantly making these sarcastic remarks… I couldn’t help but think ‘how very Jace of him’.

Yeah he might have but he decided to play a stripper instead & this movie would’ve become the next Twilight,but with Jamie this movie might have a chance, btw I don’t see
what AP fans girls see in Alex his hot yes,but so *full of it* & by that I mean well u already kno
Maybe Alex didn’t want to have a part in another franchise that won’t go beyond the first movie. I mean, he did both Alex Rider and I am Number Four (both adaptations of succesfull book series) but they both flopped and didn’t get a sequel.
So I guess he doesn’t want to do franchises anymore. Not that I’m thinking/hoping City of Bones doesn’t do well and won’t get a sequel! I’m actually hoping they will eventually make all 6 movies and also make the TID movies (and maybe TDA someday?).
That’s not the reason. He was actually looking at being Jace, then he got offered another main part for another movie. That other movie ( The Last Apprentice) is also a book. Therefore he is not going out of the “franchise” idea. He simply thought TLA would be a better role for him to play.
Although, last time I checked there wasn’t any new news about that turning into a movie.
I cannot understand how anybody can see him as Jace. He is neither hot nor adorable, he is just horrible!
I couldn’t be happier for Jamie and they couldn’t have picked a better actor!!!
How people can say anything bad about this angelic creature is beyond me. Nevermind, I am convinced (as was the case with Robert Pattinson) that all those people who are hating on Jamie now will be completely obsessed with him same time next year!
yur right Mina, & Toff quiet hating he is so adorable & cute, I just want hug him, his such a good actor I just finished watching camelot he was great in that show, ugh I want a second season it was so good 😀
NOOOO!!! OH BY THE ANGEL. that is not the problem. so what he is working out, it’s his face and just him in total. i cannot see him as jace the perfect guy for jace is alex pettyfer. no doubt about it

Do you know Alex? I hardly think you do. So, that gives you no reason to call him a douche. People have different expectations of what characters look like. For the majority, Alex fit the profile quite well. In his Tormented movie, he played a really good sarcastic jerk. Which, makes him look like a good part, rather than JUST his looks. As for the people who are more interested in Jamie, you just had a whole different perspective than the rest of us. No reason to be hating.
Well Nancee, if you think that being “sarcastic and a jerk” is all there is to Jace, then I’m afraid you might have to re-read the books again!
Jace is such a complex, multi-layerd character who is sooo much more than just sarcasm…
I have seen Pettyfer’s movies and unfortunately his acting range is subpar at best, and THAT is the point here. I have the feeling that I’m talking to a bunch of hormonal teenage girls who can’t see beyond Pettyfer’s face to the fact that he wouldn’t be able to do justice to Jace’s little finger, let alone his entire character.

I have mixed feelings about Jamie being Jace, i also had mixed feelings with Alex Pettyfer being Jace (all my freinds say he should have been) although i think Alex would have done a great job at it. I do believe Jamie might have it in him to do the job just as well.
I think why it’s such a big deal, is all of us have this image of Jace planted and unmoveable in our minds that we can hardly believe they have a face for him now, and that face is Jamie, and it is not the face we see when we think Jace. So we are stubborn and picky when it comes to who will be him.
Dear Nancee I wasn’t hating I was just giving my opinion about him I maybe totally wrong,but what I don’t understand is why people & i’m not talking about u ,have to hate on Jamie when they don’t kno him either,to most Jamie is ugly,terrible,gross,a crappy actor.But Alex on the other hand oh no! his an amazing actor,his so beauitful he isn’t ugly,terrible,gross or a crappy actor at all,u can’t be effin serious *roles eyes*.

At first, I really disliked the thought of Jamie being Jace but I am willing to give him a chance. I also imagined AP being Jace but there’s no use on hoping for him to be Jace cause the contract is already made. I guess we will see in the movie if Jamie has what it takes to be Jace and hopefully he does.
I’m happy that he’s training though cause it’s not to see Jace buff. I also think he should fix his teeth and hairstyle….. just saying. 🙂

I have yo accept that when I read the books, I imagined Alex Pettyfer 100% as Jace, but I don’t think is going to be bad with Jamie, he’s an amazing actor and I’m sure they will mame him look as we like. So excited!
