Ross Butler Joins the Magnus Bane Casting Race
With filming on ‘The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones’ set to begin on Aug. 15 in Toronto and New York, there is a slew of casting left to go.
One of the recent hot casting races has been for the role of Magnus Bane.
Shannon Kook was the first to enter the fray and was soon followed by Simon Raymond.
Now a new Magnus has entered the fray: Ross Butler.
Butler already has the support of celebrity and ‘Mortal Instruments’ fan Courtney Love.
‘City of Bones’ hits theaters on August 23, 2013.
It looks like casting is fully underway for Magnus and the rest of the ‘Mortal Instruments’ crew. Which Magnus contender are you pulling for to win the role? Sound off in the comments below!

Based on the pic above, I’d say yes!!!!!!! This is far reaching but every time I think of Magnus, I think of Lafayette from True Blood. Now HE would be a BADASS Magnus!!!

I have always thought of Adam Lambert as Magnus! Adam has been doing theater since he was a kid and was in the cast of Wicked and Hair. He would make a fantastic Magnus if they could make some more of his features Asian.

I like… i have acutally liked them all – i mean there must be a reason that they are in consideration and fighting for the role – they must be good at acting like the Magnificent Magnus Bane, so i believe in the casting director and whoever is making these choices ! i dont even know anymore… isnt that why he’s been alive for like hundred of years? i didn’t think warlocks had that advantage, but i know vampires do. Im sure if Luke is a shadowhunter werewolf, there can be warlock vampires.

He’s really really great, sounds nice as a person…. As Magnus… I don’t know, I’m really looking forward to Shannon get this role, but Ross is taller, you must admit it, and Magnus must be tall – taller than Alec, of course.

Uh no, like people have already said his skin is too light and he doesn’t look sexy enough to be Magnus. Between him and Shannon I would have to say Shannon, there is defiantly no question as to whether he is asian or not. This guy doesn’t really even seem asian in the first place.
Waaaaay too Lambert-y. Sorry, but that’s not how I pictured Magnus at all. Plus, Magnus is tan. Which Ross Butler is not.

i like ross! think about it guys…he’s wearing loads of makeup right now. who knows what his real skin color is. but the tall factor is definitely important. team ross!
Magnus is only part Asian, so someone who’s either half or 1/4 Asian needs to play him. He’s also tall and thin. Lets hope the casting crew do MI justice 🙂 Love to see who’s in the running for Alec and Simon 🙂
Magnus comes across very camp in the books, and I really like the look of both Ross (who is half Asian) and Shannon for the role. I guess it comes down to who ever gives the best performance on the day 🙂

Ross Butler is perfect. When I saw him I just thought “Yes! He is perfect for Magnus!” I then looked at the other guys and the look just isn’t there. Plus he has all the right traits; He looks gay, he’s Asian and he has Sonic the Hedgehog hair. Just need it dyed! He is more than perfect for the role based on looks.

Hmmm. Definately Ross Butler or Shannon Kook. I’m not worried about skin color, the makeup department does that all to well. But between those two, I have to go with Ross, he just seems mischevious enough to be Magnus. And Since Adam Lambert won’t be Magnus, I throw my chips in on Ross.
