‘The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones’ budgeted at $60 million

Prior to the start of Cannes, ‘The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones’ had nearly sold out. It’s been one of the most popular films on offer at the festival with the lure of Young Adult book turned movie franchises potential.

According to Variety, the budget for ‘City of Bones’ clocks in at $60 million.

Mister Smith practically sold out on “The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones” in the five days before Cannes, says Moszkowicz, whose Constantin is producing the film. Budgeted at $60 million, it was one of the biggest films on offer on the Croisette.

‘The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones’ begins filming on August 15 in Toronto and is scheduled for an August 23, 2013 theatrical release.

I wish I knew what the norm for a book-turned-movie was, so I could compare. Anyone know?

  4. The Hunger Games & Ecilpse from TheTwilight Saga had the same budget so i think were good, which means the special effects shouldn’t be so bad. 🙂

  5. I think the norm for a book-turned-movie,the budget would be, maybe 60mil or 70mil, if it were a comic book-turned-movie made by Marvel Studios like,Thor or Iron Man,were talking 200mil idk maybe i’m wrong….

That’s great news! I have a feeling that with the $60mil budget the production quality of this movie will turn out to be pretty decent. 😀

  7. The hunger games had a budget of 78 million (according to imdb) so I think the movie and the effects will turn out great 🙂

nice! this is going to be big and it seems to be gaining some popularity in the professional movie award(walready, though it did before) this is awesome!

  9. I’m not sure. $60M seems less to me. :S CoB would require a lot of special effects unlike Hunger Games which had $18M more than CoB. I don’t want the special effects to look cheap but we shall see…

  10. Proof that you can make a decent looking fantasy movie for under 100 million. Marvel and DC need to trim some fat off their production crews and star salaries to reign in their costs. They could easily do a Flash or Wonder Woman movie for this amount, as long as they aren’t paying out $20 million for a star.
