Movie Monday #13: The Silent Brothers

We are just over a year away from the theatrical release of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones and the hype for the adaptation of the internationally best selling series by Cassandra Clare will only continue to grow as the release draws nearer.

I’ve banded together with other Mortal Instruments fansites (TMI Institute, Mundie Moms, TMI Examiner and TMI News en Espanol) for a weekly feature called Movie Monday.

Each Monday leading up to the August 23, 2013, release of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, we will take a look at a scene, moment, detail, etc. and give our opinions on how we think it will be interpreted in the big screen adaptation.

Week 13: The Silent Brothers

Alyssa, TMI Source: Apart from seeing the cast assembled, one of the most exciting aspects about this adaptation is seeing how Cassandra Clare’s enticing urban fantasy world is brought to life. Clare’s world is filled with a variety of different species and one that I am the most anxious to see are the Silent Brothers.

Just reading about the physical description of the Silent Brothers (bald head, hollow eye sockets and stitched lips) is enough to send chills up your spine, but to actually see someone’s interpretation come to life is going to be absolutely chilling and exciting.

Stephen R. Hart has played his share of creepy characters so there’s no doubt that he’s perfect for this role. The transition is going to be absolutely terrifying yet stunning.

Amber, TMI Institute: There’s no imagery quite so haunting in ‘City of Bones’ as the first glimpse Clary has of Brother Jeremiah. “The archivist’s head was bald, smooth and white as an egg, darkly indented where his eyes had once been. They were gone now. His lips were crisscrossed with a pattern of dark lines that resembled surgical stitches.” A frightening sight, don’t you agree? With the casting of the super talented (and super tall) Stephen R. Hart and the makeup/prosthetics magic from 3B Artistry and PaulJonesFX, I’m confident that the Brother Jeremiah we will see in the movie will be just as visually unforgettable as he is in the narrative.

Tita, TMI News en Español: The Silent Brothers are a bunch of good people that really scare me. The first time that Brother Jeremiah appears in the book it really freaked me out, so I can’t wait to see that meeting come to life. I bet Brother Jeremiah will appear at least 2 times in the movie, when he goes to pick Clary and Jace up from the Institute and in the Silent City. I’m dying to see how they will transform Stephen R. Hart into Brother Jeremiah. I found a manipulation of Martange that brings to life exactly my mental image of him:

How do you imagine Brother Jeremiah?

What are your thoughts? How do you envision the Silent Brothers will look in the film? Join in on the discussion!

Check back next Monday for the next edition of Movie Monday.

i’m so excited for this movie and i’m also interested to see what their intepreation of him is!

  2. That is good but he needs to be really smooth and pale

  3. I feel their appearance must be very smooth too, even though they seem grotesque they should also have that angelic aura/glow about them Maybe an iridescent look to their pallour

  4. their skin should have a marble like hardness to it
