First Look: Lily Collins as Clary on CITY OF BONES set
Check out the first photos of Lily Collins as Clary Fray on the set of THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: CITY OF BONES on Monday.
Filming on the highly-anticipated film began Monday morning near St. James’ Cemetery in Toronto. Most of filming will take place in Toronto and some in New York City.

I really, really just wish they’d dyed her hair redder than this.. this is auburn brown and… no 😦
I agree 😦 I know people say it’s not the hair that makes Clary, but her passion, but STILL that is like her MAIN feature in the book. That’s the first thing they should’ve done. I can understand different colored eyes or something
I agree! I’m not impressed with the hair colour…it’s supposed to be red, for fuck’s sake, like really fiery red – it’s Clary’s signature!
Seriously, give them contacts or something, Jace had golden eyes not Jamie’s blue eyes and Clary has green eyes, not Jace’s golden eyes. It’s really the details, you know? Lilly is great, but I just wish they had picked a real redhead that was actually short and child looking for the role, even though I know Lilly will be great, it’s still anticlimactic, that these little details can change my outlook on the characters so easily. I also with that they’d pick someone with actual fair hair for Valentine, or at least die it…since when is his hair black? 😥 They’re breaking my heart.

Is it just me but I thought clary lived in an apartment building not a house? Luke lived in a house.
If I remember correctly it was meant to be an old house that had been converted into apartments, so it would make sense for it to look like a house from the outside 🙂 x
perhaps it’s just the light, but anyway i hope her hair looks redder in the final movie.

Clary’s hair is NOT red! And what about Jocelyn? She’s hair should be darker than Clary…. I think she’s just gonna be brown…:(

I, like a lot of you, also pictured Clary’s hair differently. Kind of like the colour the girl on the covers has.
However, I don’t mind the fact that it’s not orange-red in the movie. I actually like this shade of red, and I’m sure I can get used to it. I guess we all just have to get used to movie-Clary not having orange-ish hair 🙂 .
Like how Harry Potter in the books had green eyes, and in the movies blue eyes. One could argue that was also one of the character’s main features, but they still had to change it for the movie because of the actor. Same thing here 🙂

I agree with both of you; her hair isn’t exactly what I had imagined, but it still looks pretty, and I can get used to it. I still cannot wait to see the the movie.
Eye color was a main characteristic for Clary for me, She has to have green eyes or then it just woudn’t be Clary. Her hair is also a big thing that fans have expected to be red. Well, more red. I expected her hair to look like the character on the City of Lost souls cover, but you can’t change it now.
Me too! I know I’m not supposed to care and it shouldn’t matter but how is it supposed to feel real if they don’t look real! I however will CONSIDER changing my mind, if the acting blows me away and CC has reassured me! I don’t mean to sound snobby, its just my opinion
But you *are* supposed to care Anna, because you are invested in this series and you’d think that they at least get the character’s haircolour right! God knows they get payed enough money that really, changing their hair shouldn’t be that much of a problem for the actors. 🙂
I completely agree! While reading the book one of the things I loved most about Clary was her beautiful ginger hair and sparkling green eyes because it was just so unique! Now I’ve seen that Jace will have green eyes and Clary will have his gold ones! Don’t get me wrong, I love the choice of actors, but that was just really important for the story. (At least I thought so) Her hair isn’t even red it’s just copper and brown trying to look ginger! Argh! Can’t believe this…
i love lily’s hair and it is red. it’s auburn a shade of red. sometimes it may look like a different colour based on how the light its hits it. and guys, also her hair was black or close to black. it’d very hard on her hair to go to another really drastic change if the studio feels that maybe it looks brown in shots, they’ll make sure it stays the same as other shots with effects. also i think lily’s hair might be a different red for the next movie depending if she dyes her hair again for another role and then back again.. i liked the red on the city of lost souls over too. but i think Jamie hair’s looks great. i mean chances are for the next movie, they might change it. afterall rob’s hair style( imean pattinoson) for Edward’s changed. his hair was good great in the first movie but I loved Edward’s hair more in the other movies. it’s hard to tell if liyl’s eyes are green in tihs picture so maybe Clary’s eyes will be blue (yes i know it’s green in the book but maybe lily will wear cotnacts( i thik her eyes are greenish or hazel). or maybe lily’s eyes will be hazel. chaces are after i see this movie i might imagine clary eyes that way in both media and print. if lily is unable to wear contacts, perhaps the studio will use cgi or effects to make her eyes green or more green (like a different shade). but i think lily looks great and i’m excited!

I don’t really think so. I’m pretty sure that they’ll keep the actors’ looks consistent throughout the franchise as the events take place over the span of 6 months. Also, they’re planing on shooting back-to-back, no?
shes so beautiful! her hairs fine who cares! as long as she acts well and is believable as clary thats all that matters
lots of people seem to forget that orange hair doesn’t look good on everybody. Would we rather had a slighty less canon darkish red hair clary that looks good and natural(ish) or orange hair that washes out her face and looks very fake…
@Carson: she was ginger for the movie “Priest” and she looked good. The way she looks on the TMI Source icon above is *exactly* the way she should look as Clary! Besides, she had plenty of time to pre-lighten her hair to suit Clary’s hair colour description from the book. Just sayin’.

No offence but when I saw her in the movie Abduction, I thought her acting was terrible. I have not seen mirror mirror so hopefully she has improved, but I am VERY dissapointed they chose her. Not to mention the hair, it doesn’t even look remotly natural, and I pictured Clary as being super small and skinny because thats how they describe her. This movie better impress or fans will be very angry me included. Not to mention that it taints the perception of the characters from the books.
