Filming on the highly-anticipated adaptation of THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: CITY OF BONES continued on Tuesday in downtown Toronto at Garroway Books and Curios.
One of our Toronto look-outs Aathy (@xoAathyTox) made the trip out to Luke’s bookstore set.
Check out her full report:
Hey Shadowhunters! My 4th day on set was not as eventful as others, but the rain didn’t stop the crew. I arrived on set day 11 with my cousin and friends at around 3:30 p.m and walked around the block to see if we could find the trailers. However most of the trailers and tents were in a square parking lot behind the bookstore so it was perfectly concealed and fans weren’t allowed to get too close. Security was definitely tighter with several crew members coming up to give friendly warnings. And like 2 more cops than usual. But like every other day, the crew was really nice to the fans. One member told us the stunt doubles were filming then and another asked us how the fans are able to find the set all the time! We gave a combined answer:
1. GPS set to anything TMI related
2. Magic (the Magnus Bane kind)
3. Research (hard-core shadowhunter kind)
After some waiting some crew members come out. My friend points out one guy who wasn’t wearing a walky-talky and asked if he was important. I looked and didn’t think much of him as he was scratching his back. AND THEN HE TURNS AROUND! At first I couldn’t even tell because of the burly beard and the curly black hair, but O.M.G. it was Aiden Turner! I wasn’t even sure if we were going to see him with the luck we were having today. My day was totally made when he waved at us. He was gorgeous and the beard really changed his appearance. Very Luke. I was surprised to see he was much taller than I for some reason thought. I think he’s taller than Kevin, maybe Jamie’s height. But unfortunately, it looked like he was done for the day and left set. And moments later, another dodge caravan pulls up and Lily just pops out, I mean literally jumps out of the van. It was so cute. Jamie steps out the other door. This is the first time I’m seeing them arrive together in the same van. So adorable. They were quickly rushed into the store for filming. We saw Karen, the publicist walking around the set and she did talk with us once. I felt very flattered when she said she remembered us. Unfortunately Robert wasn’t scheduled to be on set today. She even brought her planner out and I could feel everyone’s eyes on it maybe to get a hint. She put it quickly back into her purse. Maybe they took Simon out of the scene or he might be coming to set tomorrow, if they continue filming the same scene. I hope for the latter. By 7:30 p.m Lily and Jamie were close to rapping up the filming inside and we saw Harold (the director) sitting in the black tent about 6 meters away watching over a scene on the camera. Lily’s and Jamie’s stunt doubles came to watch too (with a bit of flirting maybe?). Being the bored fan girls we are, we take every simple hand on the shoulder as a PDA (public display of affection). Anyways…. Just as crew members were headed for their lunch breaks one guy told us they were going to film so outdoor scenes. I even saw Kevin Durand slipping into one of the trailers! (to get all done up for a scene?) Unfortunately it was getting late and we couldn’t stay but we didn’t see Jamie appear twice, crew set up with rain machines and tall set lights.
I can’t wait to see how this scene looks on the big screen, Harold looked pleased by the shots judging by the way he was nodding his head as stunt double Clary laughed and smiled with stunt double Jace.
Thanks to Aathy for this set report!
