Cassandra Clare talks MORTAL INSTRUMENTS movie with SciFiNow
Cassandra Clare spoke with SciFiNow about the film adaptation of THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: CITY OF BONES, which is due out August 23, 2013.
Filming has begun on The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones, the big screen adaptation of the best-selling fantasy series by Cassandra Clare. Actress Lily Collins (Mirror Mirror) stars as Clary, a teen that discovers she is actually a descendant of the Shadowhunters, a secret society of enhanced humans who hunt demons and other creatures.
Playing the love interest Jace is Jamie Campbell Bower (Camelot) and author Cassandra Clare is thrilled, “I saw Jamie’s audition and he was fantastic,” she tells us. “Lily is exactly perfect for Clary; entirely what I envisioned. They also have great chemistry together.” And if the rumours are true, the pair might be loved-up behind-the-scenes, too….
Directing the project is Harald Zwart, but surprisingly his background bears no hint of fantasy credentials. Previous projects include The Karate Kid, The Pink Panther 2 and Agent Cody Banks. “I was initially surprised by the choice,” admits Clare, “but the producers set up a meeting between us and I saw what they had seen in him. Directors don’t always get to do their passion projects and he’s always wanted to do fantasy — in a way that’s better than hiring someone who has done fantasy before but is maybe not that enthused about it.”
This is one of the few literary adaptations of late that isn’t a dystopian quest (“less kids killing kids and more kids killing demons,” says Clare), and the author is looking forward to seeing the fantastical world in live action, in partcular “the big magical party that’s thrown in the middle, with all sorts of creatures like fairies, warlocks and werewolves in attendance.”

i think Harold will do great and thank you for posting this!
Yes, that he will. And maybe depending on (as i prey so much that we get all the others), that he could be the Director of the other ones….well at least the other two after “City of Bones”.
