TMI Set Day 27: Michelle’s report from the CITY OF BONES set

Filming on the highly-anticipated adaptation of THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: CITY OF BONES continued on Wednesday. I (@MichelleMags) made the trip to TMI Set Day 27 Check out my full report:

Greetings and Salutations. I'm still allowed to say this right? No? Too bad. Alright so, today turned out unexpectedly great once again. I tend to not hope too much when I head out to set but this one turned out AMAZING. Except for the "getting there" part. So I wait for Nicole and her sister Melanie at the subway station and together take the bus down to the location. Due to traffic and buses breaking down, it took us about two hours to finally get there! Also, there are NO pictures on this report. Sorry. Only pictures from yesterday are pictures of me with my friends. I don't think you guys want to see that so...

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones title treatment

As soon as we got there, we saw Jemima talking to a few crew people and we try to grab her attention by waving at her. There were two girls there as well and waiting for Robbie. As we try to get Jemima’s attention, awesome crew guy named Michael – we’ve seen him a lot of times but we’ve never spoken so much until Set Day 26 because of the cookies we made that he loved so much. Pleasure to finally know your name, Michael! We wave hello and he does a double take – he realizes it’s us and he grins as he says “hey!” and I say “want more cookies?!” and he says “of course! thanks so much guys” and he grabs about six cookies out of the bag. He heads back to his job and says “thank you” for the millionth time for the cookies.

All of a sudden, Jemima turns and walks quickly towards us and grins “hello guys!” and Nicole blurts out “hi! You’re SO pretty!” she laughs and says “aw thank you! guys, thank you SO much for the cookies” – her voice is just. Seriously guys. I can’t wait for you to hear it!

“Have you tried them?” one of us asks

“No, I haven’t but they’re back at my “room”,” (changed the word) then she added “I even took a picture of it, it’s so cute!” and we all laugh with her. She’s just so beautiful! And her accent is so, so, NICE. Then we ask her if she’s gotten the chance to roam around Toronto and she went on into telling us that she hasn’t really gotten a chance because they’re “busy, busy” (so cute how she said that) and told us a few places that she has gone to visit and enjoyed it immensely. Nicole finally asks for her autograph and they all ask for an autograph. I wish I brought my other books so I could’ve gotten the others signed too!

Anyway, she heads back to set and we all wave bye. We see Andrew and he says his usual “hello – how’d you find us – see you around” convo and storms off. Then we go around the building to meet up with Becca and Nat. Finally we decide to sit by the tree near the door and just did what we were great at: making a fool out of ourselves.

Then Karen sees us and we all wave hi. I notice the guy behind her and I was trying my best not to say “oh. my. god. it’s Josh Horowitz!” Karen comes over and says, “guys this is Josh Horowitz from MTV” — I KNOW. I was like “oh my god, HI!” – he laughs and says ‘hello’ and Karen continues introducing us and says “these are the fantastic four – they’ve been to set every day” and Josh nods and mouths “WOW”. Karen, thanks for clearing out about the little misunderstanding from Set Day 26! I’m really happy that you read my report – and might be reading this now – so thank you for knowing that it wasn’t us! Truly means a LOT. We really didn’t want anyone, and above all, Karen upset with us. Karen and Josh head back inside and we sit back down to the grass. Due to the Toronto weather during fall, the sun came down earlier and the night was much colder. So we think of ways to warm ourselves: dancing the cha-cha train around the tree, singing along to random songs, singing “TO THE WINDOOOOW- THE WAALLLL — TO THE SWEAT DOWN MY–“

Elyas walked out of the building, we say hello and he grins and says hello back but he had to get on the van. Then Lily, Jamie and Robbie’s van pull in. Then a few minutes later, Elyas’ van pulls in and with him is… *drum roll please*

Godfrey Gao. Holy WOW

But he and Elyas walk inside the building and they resume filming. But we saw him enough to say that he is MIGHTY, MIGHTY FINE.

Fast-forward to Cassie walking towards us. Well let’s say limping towards us because her heels are killers. Instead we meet her halfway and she leans on Mel and I’s shoulder. We all talk for a bit and we all say how truly lovely she looked tonight. We gave her her bag of cookies and said “thank you” – we talk while she signs books and eventually she had to go because her heels were killing her. Poor Cassie 😦

Fast-forward to Elyas coming out during his snack break. He went inside the food truck and walked towards us with a blanket wrapped around him. We spoke to him for a while as he ate and he tried to wrap the blanket around himself. While Mel held his hand to see his fingernails, I unconsciously reach out and pull the blanket around him and he says, “oh! thank you” (his accent by the way is SO cute) and I laugh and say “no problem” but the wind refused to keep our Vampire warm so I continued helping him with the blanket and Mel adjusted the blanket so that it was even on both sides. He laughed and said, “I should hire you guys!” and I say “hey, why not?!” until one of the crew guy bursts out the doors and says “hey man, you gotta head back in there” and Elyas mutters a “whoops” and says goodbye to us. I tweet to him saying that he should seriously hire us and today (27 Sept 2012) he responded with “great. you’re hired.” – We definitely won’t disappoint, Elyas! HAHAHA! He’s joking… but we’re not!

Fast-forward to Hartley pulling in! HARTLEY! We all grin when we see him pull in and he walked towards us when we all waved to say ‘hello’ and Becca handed him his bag of cookies and he said his thank you’s. We talk for a bit but he had to go check inside – we say bye and ‘see you later’ – he waves and walks inside the building.

Fast-forwarding to the part where the kitchen ladies (Kraft Ladies) pass by us and say, “do you like coffee/tea?” and we all simultaneously answer our preference and she urged us to go by pairs to the food truck/kitchen truck – it’s so awesome in there! Thank you so much in saving our lives!

It was almost 10:00 when Becca and Nat urge us all to go home already but we’re stubborn kids and chose to stay. The place was also very, very sketchy – given that we had to walk about 15 minutes to the closest station. Becca and Nat get on a cab and leaves us there (Me, Danila, Nicole and Mel). We wait for a bit more and then Karen peeks at us from the far end of the building – waves hello and gives us a “wait a moment” gesture. A few minutes later, Hartley comes out of the building with Karen and walks towards us. Hartley says, “come on in, guys” – WHAT? We were so shocked that Mel asked, “wait… do we bring our bags” and someone says “unless you want them stolen…” so we grab our bags and walk in.

We were led to the side room and Hartley urges us to grab snacks and the special hot chocolate he asked the guy to make for us. As you all may or may not know, I won’t go into any further details about what I saw that related to the book/movie. So onward I go to experiences instead. I saw the make-up artists and blurt out, “you’re so pretty!” which she is but obviously I was so giddy to even say that out loud. Sorry to creep you out, Make-up artist lady! Then we stood at the side and just enjoyed our hot chocolate – we thank Hartley who keeps a close eye on us. Until this lady approaches us and says, “alright, so what’s the deal with you guys?”. We were still so stunned with everything that we say “sorry?” and she says “why are you here? how do you find sets?”

We respond with, “with process of elimination – we base it off the book” etc etc. Richard, cool crew guy passes by us and turns to glance at us again and his expression was all “you’re in here too?!” and we all laughed as he shook his head dramatically and stormed off. We see Jemima lining up for some hot choco and she didn’t even looked surprised to see us in there. As she walked out she said, “enjoy your hot chocolate, ladies” and we all grin back at her.

Caught the “unicorn” twice in one day. Score!

We continue talking to the lady and she is so amazed with us that she says, “someone should interview you guys. Seriously, you guys are incredible!” and we all just nod and say “that would be really cool!” and then Hartley comes back to us and says that we’re going to have to head back outside/ lobby. So we stay there for awhile and decide that we might as well should leave. We tell Hartley goodbye and a million thank you’s. He waits for us and leads us out the door, we say goodbye for now and he told us to take care because the place IS very sketchy. I make an awful joke, which seemed much funnier in my head as I said, “if you don’t see us friday, you know” and he goes “what! no! don’t say that” and we all just laugh and say goodbye to Hartley and the rest of the crew.

And that concludes our amazing TMI Set Day 27. Yet again, My friends and I cannot truly express how much we love the TMI cast & crew for being SO wonderful and sweet and just AWESOME with us. You guys really do look out for us so well and a million thank you’s or 210 cookies can never suffice. Thank you to ‘Uncle Fast’ and ‘Big Dave’ – the actors’ drivers who always, always makes sure they say hi to us. Thank you to Andrew, Michael, Mike, Ricky, & Richard for always keeping us company. Thank you to Michael and Mike who are CRAZY cookie lovers. Must be a “Mike” thing.Thank you to the Kraft ladies for serving us hot drinks! Thank you Karen and Hartley for  e v e r y t h i n g!

I feel like I’m missing something, however, if I do update I’ll let you guys know. For now, this is how our TMI Set Day 27 went. Until next set day, Shadowhunters!

Much love,

Michelle Mags

  3. As an English person it’s so amusing how the foreign fans gush over Jemima’s voice. To me she sounds exactly like every other posh, rich girl you see around South Ken in London.

  8. Hi Michelle,
So is it that you’re not allowed to tell where the set is or post photos any more? Or can’t I just find them?

  9. As always Michelle, thank you for an excellent report! Have I just now caught on that Cassie will have a cameo in the movie? 😉

  10. I’ve never commented before, but I love your set reports and I always read them. The little details and experiences are just as exciting as the concrete details we understand you can’t give us. Seriously, thank you. 🙂
One note: I can’t keep track of everyone! You mention Hartley, Richard, Mike, Andy and so many others so casually that I get sort of lost. I think it might be an interesting idea to make some kind of short roster with the job/brief description of the people you mention at the begnning or end of every post.

  11. It seems like you had such an amazing day! I love all the reports! I don’t always comment though I do on most of the,! You are really dedicated and I’m glad you got to see the cast and Cassie and meet Jem! I’d love to go but i’m in college so there’s not really a time i can right now. maybe during my study week?
