Taking a stand against Cyberbullying

Bullying has always existed in society, but in recent years it has escalated to a new level of low with cyberbullying, “the use of the Internet and related technologies to harm other people, in a deliberate, repeated, and hostile manner,” as defined by Wikipedia.

Cyberbullying  methods include “communications that seek to intimidate, control, manipulate, put down, falsely discredit, or humiliate the recipient. The actions are deliberate, repeated, and hostile behavior intended to harm another.”

Cyberbullying has recently affected the Shadowhunter Chronicles fandom as hateful people have been posting slanderous and hurtful things where they know we will see them.

I don’t want to bring any more attention to them as it only serves to give them satisfaction knowing what it has done.

But I do want to address the issue of cyberbullying–as October is National Bullying Prevention Month–as most of us have either come across it or been the victim of it. It’s even more prevalent on social media sites now more than ever before.

Cyberbullies are even bigger cowards than just bullies as they hide behind their Internet personas to bully and degrade others online. They belittle others to make themselves feel good and enjoy watching said person suffer emotionally.

There have been countless cases of cyberbullying which have caused people–teens especially–to take their own lives because of the pain and humiliation. No matter how bad it gets remember that you are not alone. There is always someone who is willing to listen and help you.

If you or someone you know have been the victim of cyberbullying I urge you to reach out and not keep it to yourself. Here are some websites with more information:

And if you have ever contemplated suicide please call the National Suicide Hotline at 1-800-273- TALK (8255).

Cyberbullies don’t shape your life. You do. Don’t let them win.

  5. I hate bullies. They have no right to do what they do. That is a really good thing you posted this. Thank you.

  6. Bulllying online is something most people find funny, but is something that could cause chaos or troubles. Cyber bullying doesn’t only happen to people, they also happen to businesses especially on shops which have been subject for wrong judgments. These are shops like those from China which are generally considered as fraudulent or shops with low quality… We can’t blame people to air out their sides about this because scams are really there.. however, it would be unfair if people just create a buzz out of something they haven’t really experienced… That is why I weigh things thoroughly before believing any other opinions from others. When buying online in China, I normally read review sites like and Reseller Rating..
