Movie Monday #21: Magnus’ Party

We are less than a year away from the theatrical release of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones and the hype for the adaptation of the internationally best selling series by Cassandra Clare will only continue to grow as the release draws nearer.

I’ve banded together with other Mortal Instruments fansites (TMI Institute, Mundie Moms,TMI Examiner and TMI News en Espanol) for a weekly feature called Movie Monday.

Each Monday leading up to the August 23, 2013, release of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, we will take a look at a scene, moment, detail, etc. and give our opinions on how we think it will be interpreted in the big screen adaptation.

Week 21: Magnus’ Party

Alyssa, TMI Source: With MTV’s exclusive first look at the set of THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: CITY OF BONES–which just happened to be the night they were filming Magnus’ party–fans are as eager as ever to see how this scene will come to life on the big screen. It already looks like there are slight changes–like the party being set outdoors–so it will be exciting to see any other changes in the adaptation of this scene.

Of course we are all excited about this scene because it introduces us to the High Warlock of Brooklyn Magnus Bane–who wasn’t in MTV’s first set video–and we get a look at the various Downworlders that are a part of Cassandra Clare’s world.

Amber, TMI Institute: There are many aspects of Magnus’ party I’m dying to see. First, and certainly most important to the occasion, is Chairman Meow! I want to see the fearless feline who is the honoree of the party. Next, and we saw a glimpse of it in the MTV First Look, is Clary’s slink party dress. She looks amazing in it! Probably the thing I’m most anticipating is Simon and his transformation into a rat. I want to see how the CGI crew will handle this. Overall, I know this scene will be amazing, and I am really looking forward to it on the big screen.

Natalie, TMI Examiner: It was so exciting to get a glimpse of Magnus’ party in the MTV News first look at ‘The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.’ Jace and Clary’s costumes were exactly as I imagined them. The costumes of the party guests merged a perfect mix of Gothic and fantasy flare. I also loved how we saw Jace take Clary’s hair down for the party. You can already get an idea of the chemistry they have. Remember that this takes place in the book at the Institute. In the movie it’s obviously going to take place at the beginning of Magnus’ party. This is an example of some subtle changes that we’ll see once ‘City of Bones’ is on the big screen but they are subtle changes that do not effect the story. I’m so glad to see that this particular part made the cut! Though I loved getting to see something from the movie, this was such a tease and now I want more! 

Tita, TMI News en Español: What can I say about Magnus’ Party? I’m all emotions after seeing the first exclusive visit of MTV to the set of the movie… Magnus’ Party!!! Can’t even believe this is happening!! It was a dream come true… And the detail… Oh yes, you all know what I mean.. The detail that Jace let Clary’s hair free… this is… just… OMG we all went crazy when we saw that small detail brought to the big screen! What does it say about this project? It’s going to be awesome, full of winks to the book fans and I’m more and more sure everyday we are all going to freak out in the theater…. Yes, it’s obvious that not all the scenes are going to look like they are in the book, there’s not enough time for a movie to let all in, buuuuut, does it means the movie adaptation is going to be a bad movie? ooh no nephilim, this movie is going to be amazing, stunning, awesome… Shall I continue? 🙂
