10 Things To Look Forward To as post-production on CITY OF BONES gets underway

Filming on THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: CITY OF BONES just wrapped yesterday (Nov. 7) in Toronto and we’re already missing it. But we are one step closer to watching this adaptation makes it way to the big screen.

It’s sad to think that filming is over–though there are still some exterior shots to be filmed in New York by the second unit–but there are plenty of exciting things that lie ahead for this fandom and this movie adaptation.

We’ve compiled a list of 10 Things To Look Forward To as post-production on THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: CITY OF BONES gets underway:

1. TEASER TRAILER: Since director Harald Zwart teased that the teaser trailer for THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: CITY OF BONES was coming “very soon,” it’s been the hot topic among the fandom. The first teaser trailer is set to play in front of Breaking Dawn Part 2, which will put it on the radar of those who haven’t read the books or the film. Fans can look forward to an online debut prior to Nov. 16.

2. MOVIE POSTERS: We have the official title treatment but we can’t wait to finally see it on an official movie poster. Just imagine going to your local theater and seeing the MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: CITY OF BONES poster hanging under a “Coming Soon” sign. And most likely the posters will be available for purchase so you can hang them up in your house.

3. THEATRICAL TRAILER: While this is a few months away, the official theatrical trailer is something that fans have been looking forward for quite some time. We’ll get two and a half minutes worth of footage edited to perfection for dedicated fans and for new fans to fall for this story.

4. MOVIE STILLS: Stills are something that fans can look forward to throughout post-production and leading up to the film’s release. We still haven’t gotten our first official still from the film, but it’s likely to be exclusively revealed on an entertainment website like Entertainment Weekly.

5. FEATURETTES: These have become common in Young Adult books-turned-movies as they show the process of adapting a book to a film. The director and actors will likely provide commentary to certain aspects of the story and the movie-making process.

6. MERCHANDISE: Sony Pictures Consumer Products has the licensing rights for THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS and will be handling the release of apparel and accessories, gift and novelty items, beauty, mobile and social games, stationery, publishing, collectibles and housewares and more. 

7. COMIC-CON: Cassandra Clare revealed last week that the cast will be at Comic-Con International in San Diego in July 2013. Most likely Sony will have a panel for the cast–perhaps in the infamous Hall H, which houses big fandoms. Clare also said that she will be in attendance, likely doing the movie panel and perhaps a book panel. Shadowhunters will definitely have a presence at Comic-Con in 2013.

8. MOVIE TIE-IN BOOK: In most books-turned-movies there comes a movie tie-in edition of the book, which tends to be paperback. Usually the cover is the official movie poster and bears the title: “Now a Major Motion Picture.” This is a book that fans will be especially eager to add to their collection.

9. PRESS JUNKETS: We’re all waiting for the time when the cast reunites for promotion of the film when the release date is about one month away. With the colorful cast involved in this movie it’s sure to be quite entertaining when they meet with different media outlets discussing the film and we’re sure to learn some things that happened behind-the-scenes on set.

10. PREMIERE: Yes, the moment we’re all waiting for. When the cast, crew and fans come together for an event unlike any other. There is no current set date for the U.S. premiere, but it’s either going to be in Los Angeles or New York City, where the series takes place. I have no doubt that Shadowhunters will make the journey for the main event that kicks off this film franchise.
