Movie Monday #26: Java Jones Alley Scene

We are less than a year away from the theatrical release of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones and the hype for the adaptation of the internationally best selling series by Cassandra Clare will only continue to grow as the release draws nearer.

I’ve banded together with other Mortal Instruments fansites (TMI Institute, Mundie Moms,TMI Examiner and TMI News en Espanol) for a weekly feature called Movie Monday.

Each Monday leading up to the August 23, 2013, release of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, we will take a look at a scene, moment, detail, etc. and give our opinions on how we think it will be interpreted in the big screen adaptation.

Week 26: Java Jones Alley Scene

Alyssa, TMI Source: I didn’t realize how excited I was for this scene until we got a brief glimpse of it in the teaser trailer. This is the moment where Jace’s suspicions and Clary’s questions come to light. Clary discovers that she’s not the normal girl she thought she was and is about to be pulled into the world of the Shadowhunters. It looks like they stuck pretty close to the book, from what we saw in the teaser trailer. Jamie Campbell Bower’s intensity and Lily Collins’ desperation for answers are fabulous in this scene. I can’t wait to see the whole scene come to life.

Amber, TMI Institute: Just from the short glimpse we see in the teaser trailer for The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, it’s obvious that Jamie and Lily will pull off an intense, emotional scene in the Java Jones alley. Clary, clearly shaken after seeing the gorgeous Jace show up unexpectedly, needs answers. In the book she wants to know why Jace is following her. She wants to know what happened that night at Pandemonium. Hearing Jace say “You are not a mundane” in the trailer had me so thrilled, knowing that this will be the first time he and Clary truly get a chance to interact. That scene is the start of a very thrilling ride!

Natalie, TMI Examiner: I think this is going to be a great opportunity to really see Jace and Clary interact for the first since their meeting at the Pandemonium Club. I can’t wait to see Lily’s frustration and their chemistry. With the first trailer out every scene we discuss from now on bring more excitement since we’ve seen that this movie us obviously being treated well. The excellent shots in the trailer are proof of that.

Tita, TMI News en Español: The whole Java Jones thing is exciting, but what happens in the alley after Clary leaves Simon to follow Jace, is super intense. We all know now that we are not going to miss this scene, as we saw in the trailer that we’ll have it, and as I thought, it’s a pretty intense scene. Clary looks out of herself, freaking out, almost crying, and Jace is there like, OK there’s something going on with you little girl and I wanna know if my theories are true. Jamie looks fierce in that scene, almost angry, and it makes everything more intense.

What are your thoughts? What’d you think of the brief bit we got in the teaser trailer? How excited are you to see the full scene in the film? Join in on the discussion!

Check back next Monday for the next edition of Movie Monday.

  1. I think Jace’s accent made this scene FREAKIG AMAZING for me in the trailer! It really shows how different the two universes of mundanes and shadowhunters are, and of course makes him 10x sexier… 😉

  2. jace’s accent really helped ot make things amazing! I can’t wait to see it come to life ! and jace’s accent makes him so much more sexy than he already is

    • I agree. Many were a little worried about the shadowhunters having British accents but it sure works. Jamie’s voice is mezmerising.

  3. I hope they kept Erics bad poem about loins in it. Lol! I loved that part. And the part with the girl checking out Simons adorkable self.

What I mainly hope comes from this scene is Simons struggle to tell Clary that he’s in love with her, and Clary’s inability to focus on anything other than the pandemonium and her odd visions. This scene should be the turning point in the movie because from there on out Jace is glued to Clary’s side. Their bond and attraction is solid. Thats why I love Alec’s frustration: “What is it about her?” “She’s different.” “She’s going to get us all killed!” Everyone’s suffering from unrequited love in CoB. Its delicious angst.

The director really didnt have to change much for the Java Jones scene. It was movie ready. 🙂
