Movie Monday #30: The Midnight Flower

Movie Monday

We are less than a year away from the theatrical release of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones and the hype for the adaptation of the internationally best selling series by Cassandra Clare will only continue to grow as the release draws nearer.

I’ve banded together with other Mortal Instruments fansites (TMI InstituteMundie Moms,TMI Examiner and TMI News en Espanol) for a weekly feature called Movie Monday.

Each Monday leading up to the August 23, 2013, release of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, we will take a look at a scene, moment, detail, etc. and give our opinions on how we think it will be interpreted in the big screen adaptation.

Week 30: The Midnight Flower

Alyssa, TMI Source: It’s safe to say that one of the most anticipated scenes in the big screen adaptation of THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: CITY OF BONES is the Midnight Flower scene. It’s a moment that has been building since Clary and Jace’s first meeting at Pandemonium. The scene is gorgeous–the greenhouse at the Institute under the moonlight on Clary’s birthday just shy of midnight. It’s the first time our hero and heroine truly let their guards down with one another and it’s a moment that has had fans swooning and one that fans will surely lock in on with the film’s release.

As for the entirety of the scene itself I think it will be shortened to help fit with the allotted screen time, but I believe the main essence and the true beauty of the scene will remain intact.

Amber, TMI Institute: My anticipation for The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones revolves around a very pivotal scene: Midnight Flower.

It’s Clary’s birthday, and Jace surprises her in a very sweet, vulnerable scene. There are many aspects of the scene I’m looking forward to seeing. I’m very anxious to see the cinematography. Just imagining how the moonlight will light the many plants and how the effects of the actual “midnight flower” opening makes me eager to see it for myself. Even more importantly, I can’t wait for the moment when, in an effort to help Clary, Jace abandons his control and kisses Clary.

For those who have read it, you know how important this scene is to the book and the movie. For those who haven’t, I’m eager for them to experience the moment in which all TMI delight. I have complete faith that Jamie and Lily will nail this scene and that the film makers have captured the essence of its beauty.

Tita, TMI News en Español: Ohhh my favourite chapter in the book!!!! Thanks to the Angel we know that they included it in the movie. How much are we going to see from the original chapter from the book? I hope everything!! I can’t wait to see how nice Jace is with Clary in her birthday with the picnic and the funny conversation they have:

“Huh,” said Clary, turning it over in her fingers. “You know, when most girls say they want a big rock, they don’t mean, you know, literally a big rock.”

“Very amusing, my sarcastic friend. It’s not a rock, precisely. All Shadowhunters have a witchlight rune-stone.”

Oh my, can’t wait to see the first kiss between Jace and Clary and how all the fandom explodes in the cinema 😉

What are your thoughts? How excited are you to see the Midnight Flower chapter come to life on the big screen? Join in on the discussion!

Check back next Monday for the next edition of Movie Monday.
