THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: CITY OF BONES came in at No. 1 on Film Thrasher‘s List of ’15 Most Anticipated Films of 2013.’

It beat out other YA films The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, The Host and Beautiful Creatures, as well as action flicks Man of Steel, Pacific Rim and Star Trek Into Darkness.

1. The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones: I have been waiting for this movie forever. I read the books faster than you can say “read” and it’s one of my favorite series. So how can I not be excited for the movie? Despite a lot of stir in the fandom over casting and all of that jazz, the teaser that played during the premiere of Twilight caused City of Bones to climb back onto The New York Times Best Seller list, so clearly it’s doing it’s job. The one film out of the many I truly believe will become “the next Twilight” is The Mortal Instruments, due to it’s similar fan base and because author Cassandra Clare is so close to the film. It feels like her vision will stay true and that’s what we all want out of a book to film, right?

  1. Hey guys! Editor-in-chief Cameron here from Film Thrasher. Thank you so much for the link! TMI topped ONE of our staff’s lists, as we have five Most Anticipated 2013 lists going out this week. Our other writer Jess listed it as her #2 pick: http://www.filmthrasher.com/2012/12/feature-jess-15-most-anticipated-films.html Meanwhile, there are still two more lists to come before the week is up 😉

  2. Oh Lord, another comparison to Twilight. Just what we need 😦 Marketing to a too-young audience once again.

    • Exactly- I don’t think that TMI is really the next Twilight at all. I read the first Twilight book and I didn’t like it at all because it didn’t really have any depth and Bella is a weak character; TMI is the complete opposite.

i agree! most people(EVERYONE) thinks i’m crazy for not loving the twilight saga and liking (not loving) the movies. i also read the first book and found that bella wasn’t that characteristic and not really deep or anything. i find it an understatement to be compared. TMI is a completely different audience than twilight fans. no offense to the twilight fans its just my personal thoughts.

yay tmi made the top of the list! and why is the next “twilight” always being used? I love the twilight books and series, but they need to rephrase it such as perhaps the next young adult series or the next young adult series that will make an impact?

    • They have no other comparison when describing the excitment surrounding Twilight. Twilight saga was extremely successful, and people are expecting it to be as, if not bigger, than that franchise. They dont mean it’s like Twilight. I loved Twilight, so to me it’s a compliment.

      • I meant “the excitement surrounding Mortal Instruments”. Lol. Sorry, got ahead of myself.

I certainly hope it is not the “next Twilight”! I have read the books and enjoyed them, but Cassandra Clare is more of an action author and less of a “supernatural romance” one. Books like that simply do not sound as intriguing to me. Of course that is just my opinion and everyone is entitled to their own.

  5. As much as I loved the Hunger Games I can honestly say Mortal Instruments will be the next box office smash. Midnight showing is gonna be the kind of crazy I particiated in with Twilight. Cant wait!

  6. I liked Twilight, read the books, seen the movies, BUT I simply LOVE and am addicted to TMI. I am in my 10th re-read of all the books. I just can’t stop. When I get to the end of COLS, I just go back and start over with COB. Plus, I really, really, love Jamie Campbell Bower ❤ TMI has a lot more action and the characters are a lot deeper. There are never any dull moments. I think TMI will be a lot bigger than Twilight! – That's my opinion.I CANNOT WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • I agree with you that Twilight cannot be compared to TMI. I did not read any of the Twilight books but did see all the movies and they were just ok. I read all the Hunger Games books and saw the movie and am looking forward to seeing the next one. I read Beautiful Creatures and was totally bored and have no plans to see the move but–. I have read all the TMI books except for the last and they are by far the best of the bunch. I can’t wait to see the movie(s), I was recommended the books by the daughter of a friend. And by the way, I am a senior. A couple of friends and myself can’t wait for the movie and we laugh to ourselves that we will be the oldest in the audience but don’t care.

  7. Reblogged this on Writing Haven .

  8. @ Izzy – I am also a “pre-senior” and I love TMI. I love Jamie and yeah I’m old enough to be his mom – but I don’t care either!!! I I love the Mortal Instruments. It was my son’s girlfriend who gave him the book to read. I had just finished reading all the Hunger Game books and was looking around for something to read. He gave me COB and said I’m not too sure what this is about but you could try it. Try it I did and didn’t stop til I got to the end of the book. I was hooked!!! Then I drove to the book store to pick up the next 3 books and then COLS came out just as I was finishing COFA. I so can’t wait for the COB movie to come out. I am going to see that movie more than a few times 🙂 🙂

    • Too bad we don’t live close to each other as us seniors and pre-seniors could form a club and go to the movie together. That would be a hoot.

  9. I just feel like by comparing it to Twilight, they’re shutting off the male and older adult audience with the image of squealing 13 year-olds, when the book and movie have themes I feel could be enjoyable to both audiences. Thank god the trailer gave us some badassery to set us apart from all the “Next Twilights”
