Will ‘THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: CITY OF BONES’ receive a PG-13 rating?
While there has been no official announcement of the theatrical rating of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, a new advertisement on Kindle indicates that the film will be rated PG-13.
Keep in mind this isn’t confirmed by the studio, but PG-13 seems like the most likely rating for The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones with the violence, sensuality, mature themes, etc.
As per MPAA a PG-13 rating classifies:
PG-13 — Parents Strongly Cautioned. Some Material May Be Inappropriate For Children Under 13. A PG-13 rating is a sterner warning by the Rating Board to parents to determine whether their children under age 13 should view the motion picture, as some material might not be suited for them. A PG-13 motion picture may go beyond the PG rating in theme, violence, nudity, sensuality, language, adult activities or other elements, but does not reach the restricted R category. The theme of the motion picture by itself will not result in a rating greater than PG-13, although depictions of activities related to a mature theme may result in a restricted rating for the motion picture. Any drug use will initially require at least a PG-13 rating. More than brief nudity will require at least a PG-13 rating, but such nudity in a PG-13 rated motion picture generally will not be sexually oriented. There may be depictions of violence in a PG-13 movie, but generally not both realistic and extreme or persistent violence. A motion picture’s single use of one of the harsher sexually-derived words, though only as an expletive, initially requires at least a PG-13 rating. More than one such expletive requires an R rating, as must even one of those words used in a sexual context. The Rating Board nevertheless may rate such a motion picture PG-13 if, based on a special vote by a two-thirds majority, the Raters feel that most American parents would believe that a PG-13 rating is appropriate because of the context or manner in which the words are used or because the use of those words in the motion picture is inconspicuous.

It seems likely. According to the German Facebook CoB movie page the trailer is suitable for 12-year-olds so the movie will probably get the same rating.
Aw. I was hoping it’d get a higher rating, maybe 16. I thought it was going to be like, darker and too mature for tweenies.

15 doesn’t really exist in u.s. or canada. in canada there may be 14a
If it gets higher than PG-13, I will personally kill someone! I mean, the book is for 13 and up, so so should the movie.
Im hoping for a high rating too because if it was something like PG then i believe it wouldn’t live up to the expectations of what it could be.
pg-13 is perfect. They would probably have issues with earning enough money for a sequel if they made it R. Movies that have an R rating usually makes less money because teens account for a lot of ticket sales. Hunger Games, Avengers, Dark Knight Rises, Harry Potter and the DH pt2, and other were pg-13 and did awesome. I am very happy with the rating since pg would be too kiddy.
yes it has to be PG-13 because i’m only 13 [about to turn 14] and if it’s R this movie won’t make alot of money and if it’s PG people will think it’s for kids and won’t watch it!!!plus the movie theater will be filled with a bunch of kids making noise!!!!!!:)
Like the movie will be R rated but it should be like M15+
Im hopeing for a higher rating I dont think it should be pg-13 cause look at hunger games that so should hav been a higher rating than it was I really was disapointed with hunger games
i’m hoping it’s pg 13, i mean it may be pg in canada. i’ll love it eitehr way and it’ll proably will be. the adults will be happy, so will the teens and the parents taking them unless they’re unrealistically strict.
