Cassandra Clare shares ‘TLH’ in the Spring artwork

After already sharing Cassandra Jean’s amazing artwork for The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices, Cassandra Clare has taken to her tumblr to show her fans artwork for her mysterious ‘TLH’ series.
The last piece of art will be The Dark Artifices in Summer.
Here is what Cassie had to say about ‘TLH’ and the characters:
Taking a break briefly from the tarot card project, I asked Cassandra Jean to draw the four seasons as the four Shadowhunter series I have either written or planned right now — The Mortal Instruments, The Infernal Devices, the Dark Artifices, and The Mysterious TLH.
Here TLH takes the season of spring in Hyde Park. In this case, though, I’m not going to name the characters, except that Matthew and James are front and center, and in the background, in a rowboat, you can see Will, James and Tessa. I might revisit this after the Midnight Heir comes out. 🙂 Some characters you may be able to guess, others perhaps not.
Wow, so many new characters! I hope Cassie will shed some light on them after The Midnight Heir and I’m really excited for Cassandra Jean’s final artwork which sure will be crowded with 8 Blackthorn children.

Matthew (Fairchild) and James are in the front, and Will, Tessa, and Jem are in the row boat, as Cassie already stated (James Herondale on land, James Carstairs is in the row boat; if you look close you can see that he is wearing the robes of the Brotherhood). The two girls to the left of James and Matthew are Cordelia Carstairs and Lucie Herondale, James’s little sister for those who didn’t see the family tree (Cassie posted a picture of the two of them on her blog maybe a week ago or so). Lucie has brown hair (like Tessa :]) and Cordelia has the dark red hair. I’m speculating that the boy whose hair is the same color as Cordelia’s is her brother, Alistair. The little boy on the left is Alexander for sure (he’s only 3 when TLH takes place), and I’m assuming (if you can say that) that the couple in the middle (blonde girl and black haired boy) are Grace Cartwright and Christopher Lightwood (there’s an article on TMI Source in which Cassie states that Grace will be part of the series). Not sure about the brooding blonde on the far left hand side, or the five characters on the far right. I guess I have some more speculating to do 😉
Something else that occurred to me while examining this picture first, though: I don’t think that the older children (who are included on the family tree) are going to be included in TLH, or at the very least aren’t in the picture. By this point, the oldest children on the family tree are in their mid-twenties (those would be Sophie and Gideon’s children and Tatiana’s child), not to mention Charlotte and Henry’s first child, Charles, who was presumably born the same year as Jessie, 1879. It’s probably safe to assume that Matthew was Charlotte and Henry’s last child even.

My guesses (from left to right) – SPOILERS FOR CLOCKWORK PRINCESS:
1. Blond guy: Jesse Blackthorn. I think he looks older than the rest. He was born in 1879 and James was born in 1886.
2. Woman/girl and little boy: The boy could be Alexander Lightwood (the first). He was born in 1900 and we know that TLH is set in 1903. He looks like a 3-year-old. I guess the woman/girl is his older sister Anna.
3. The girls: Lucie and Cordelia.
4. Couple between Matthew and James: I’ll go with Christopher Lightwood and Grace Cartwight. Christopher could have Cecily’s black hair.
5. Guys sitting on the ground: Alistair (?) and Charles Fairchild. The redhead is giving me a Fairchild/Branwell vibe. Look at the TID artwork, I think he and Henry look similar.
6. The boy and the two girls: Thomas, Barbara and Eugenia Lightwood.
7. Woman with her back to us: Tatiana Blackthorn?

I’m pretty sure James and Matthew are going to be the ‘main’ love interests in TLH. If you compare it to the other two ‘seasons’ you can see that in the TMI one Clary and Jace are in the middle and in the TID one Will, Jem and Tessa are also in the middle. I’m also willing to bet Emma and Julian are going to be in the middle in the TDA one.
I think it’s exciting and different that there’ll be a gay main character in a supernatural YA book!
I am willing to bet they aren’t gay. That sort of thing wasn’t acceptable during the earlier 1900s. It’s not even generally accepted today among Shadowhunters during TMI. If they were gay, they wouldn’t be openly gay. Plus, James marries Cordelia according to the family tree on the back of the Clockwork Princess book sleeve. Just because they’re in the middle doesn’t mean they’re in a relationship together, and by that reasoning, Will and Jem would be gay too–or at least bi or something.
I dun think Cassie will do another gay couple after Malec, she seems to o reluctant to add any after Malec, i guess Malec couple is the only gay couple in the shadowhunters world, sad but i guess thats the reality of it and some fans seems like they dun like gay couple in the shadowhunters world, so theres that. I for one wish there is more gay couple in the series than just our dear Malec, ive had enough of the usual regular couple, i want more variety in the couplings but thats just me.

I’m agreeing with cat. Two gay protagonists. It makes sense really. Two gay guys couldn’t ever be in that world so that’s maybe why James married cordelia. That’s maybe why James drowned himself. I ship it.
Oh, I wasn’t saying that James and Matthew are the gay protagonists. I was merely pointing out that Cassie will write about gay Shadowhunters. The boys could be the protagonists of Cassie’s secret Shadowhunter series which is set after 2012 (The Dark Artifices). Besides, she has said that TLH will have a love triangle of one boy and two girls. I think James has enough on his plate 😉 But I’m still looking forward to the gay protagonists!
I also think that if James Herondale has a problem with his love life, he wants to die and is in a time when being gay was inadmissible and also its super forbidden to be in love with your parabatai, we have a warranty of drama. It’s a big possibility, and also rasonable one because I remember that in one of Q&A from Cassie she said that Tessa and Will could do nothing to James problems. You can’t resolve be gay, is it? It’s just my theory.
I want to read this series now!!!! I can’ wait that long to work out all the little mysteries. Though I am looking forward to reading the Dark Artifices I am looking forward to this so much more I want this one first! I don’t know if you can see it in the picture here but if you go to Cassandra Jeans tumblr page you can zoom in, the guy standing in the centre with with James (Matthew?) looks like he has golden eyes, has anyone else noticed this?
James and Matthew are so cute! James is all like “I’m so upset, I’m in love with 2 girls!” and Matthew is like “It’s okay brother, just look into my adorable eyes and everything will fine.” I love them already ❤

And from the characters of TLH… Spring! You shouldn’t scrutinise this if you don’t want any spoilers for The Infernal Devices though. I unfortunately got some since I have yet to read Clockwork Princess.
The boy with the dark red hair must be Alistair. The girls and the boy in the background (right) can be Lightwoods (Anna, Barbara, Eugenia, two of them).
Forget it, the redheaded boy must be Charles. We know he’s got red hair for sure, but we don’t know anything about Alistair.
