Characters from ‘THE DARK ARTIFICES’ to be introduced in ‘CITY OF HEAVENLY FIRE’
Cassandra Clare revealed in an interview with Hollywood Crush that characters from The Dark Artifices, the sequel series that takes place five years after the conclusion of The Mortal Instruments, will be introduced in City of Heavenly Fire.
“I know exactly what’s going to happen,” she said of the new series, which will take place in Los Angeles five years after the conclusion of the “TMI” books. “I’m still wrapping up the last book in the ‘Mortal Instruments’ series and the characters of ‘The Dark Artifices’ are introduced in it.”
Cassie said she’s getting to know them for the first time in City of Heavenly Fire:
“I’m really getting to meet them for the first time in ‘The Mortal Instruments.’ They come in and we get to see them and their interactions with each other,” she said. “I really feel like in the book it’s an act of Clary and Jace and the other characters passing the torch on to this next generation younger than them and being like, ‘Now the adventure is your adventure.’”
Once again Cassie teased that the surviving characters from The Mortal Instruments could make an appearance in The Dark Artifices.
“The surviving ones [will cross over],” Clare teased. “If you live through ‘The Mortal Instruments,’ you will probably be in ‘The Dark Artifices.’”
Whoa, ominous! “Ominosity is my middle name,” Cassie joked, with the caveat that things won’t get completely crazy. “It’s not like ‘Hamlet.’ It’s not like we end with the wind blowing over the corpses, but there’s some deaths.”
Unfortunately said deaths could hit pretty hard. “I hope so,” Cassie said. “Otherwise you don’t feel it.”
City of Heavenly Fire will be released in May 2014. The first installment of The Dark Artifices, Lady Midnight, will be released in 2015. Are you excited to meet the characters of The Dark Artifices as their young selves? Sound off in the comments!

OMG!!!!! I don’t want any of them to die!!!!!!! I love the whole group! Jace, Clary, Simon, Isabelle, Alec, Magnus, Mia, Luke, & even Jocelyn. Although sometimes I felt like she treated Clary wrong.
I know, I feel the same way!! If even one of them dies….

Nnnnooo! I don’t want any of them to die! Please don’t let it be Clary, Isobel, or Alec. I think Magnus will be fine until the last trilogy Cassie writes in the Shadowhunters Chronicles, him and Simon are comedic gold mines.

i am so stoked for city of heavenly fire, but at the same time i am scared to death over who dies and who lives. would sucl if malec dosent get back together, and i would love to see a way that izzy and simon can be together, so like i said i am stoked but also scared silly!
I think it will be cool to see the new characters young before seeing them in TDA. But I have a feeling that Luke, Jordan and Mayrse are gonna be among the departed. 😦
if anybody, Im hoping it to be Simon.. That sounds awful, but can honestly any of us imagine him in 100 years? He isnt cut out to be a vampire, and he would do anything to protect his friends (not just Clary now! Izzy… maybe even Jace) including die to keep them safe. It would be sad, but probably one of the few deaths i could tolerate. (Not Malec though. God no. )
Am I the only one who felt some pain when reading the part “after the conclusion of TMI”? I don’t want it to end!

Honestly, I don’t care about the new characters and the new series, so I’m not excited by this news. Concerning characters from TMI who could die in CoHF, I hope it will be Maia or Jordan (or both, I don’t care) and if it’s a more important character that must die, then Isabelle whom I’ve never really liked (even though I love Simon).
That sounds pretty heartless! Cassie has made us love all the characters in their own way. Also, one of the major characters has to die, I think (not that I want that to happen) for the dramatic effect. I will be very sad to see any of them die, frankly.
Well, Cassie hasn’t made me love all the characters and it’s good : it’s the proof that she can create differents characters who can be loved (or not) by different people. The main thing is that everyone can find a character that they love and I really like some of them like Clary, Simon and Magnus. But, honestly, Maia and Jordan…
I refuse to get worried or upset about this, because if I think about it I will start obsessing about which characters are going to be killed and I have a bad feeling its going to be either Simon (as it will have an effect on everyone) or Magnus (he has lived for hundreds of years and has done a lot of living in that time and it would be just like him to be self sacrificing for Alec). I spent the whole time before the Clockwork Princess worrying about who was going to die and look how that ended, yes it broke our hearts but in a good way. Maybe she’ll just kill of Jonathon and explore the effect his death has on Clary Jace and Jocelyn, I don’t think I could bear anyone else.
I will FREAK if Cassandra Clare kills Magnus (no offence) he has to be in all the books otherwise its going to be a little boring and like a bit meaningless I mean Magnus has bean in every books so far (its almost like a signature) even if only in one chapter… Magnus gives it that spark… someone that has bean there to help all our favourite characters through out time. No other character has appeared in every book only Magnus. without Magnus it will kind of feel a bit empty.as if something is missing , and not to mention , were will the shadowhunters get a new warlock that is actually willing to help them…. also if Magnus is gone who will be the very old yet very handsome and hot freewheeling bisexual warlock , who has basically been everywhere , done everything and lived to tell the tales of those awesome adventures.
As a side note what if it magnus dies and it becomes a domino effect for e.g.
Magnus dies in the battle.
Alec kills himself because he feels responsible or depressed for Magnus’s death.
Alec and Isabelle’s mother Maryse dies of depression because both her sons are dead and her marriage was busy failing.
Isabelle has a nervous breakdown because of everything that’s happened so far.
Simon who no longer has the mark of Cain tries to cheer her up by doing the Lambada on a greased platform over a pit full of knives (ignoring Magnus’s warning not to do so) and ends up dying .
Isabelle and her father Robert realize that almost everyone they have ever loved is dead and so go of fighting some demons and both get killed by a greater demon because they where distracted and not thinking strait.
Clary realizes that her best friend in the world is dead and she thinks its her fault because she is the one who told him about shadowhunters and downwolders in the first place. So she decides to storm into Hotel Dumort and just attack all the vampires.
Jace follows her there and also gets caught up in the fight. He calls Luke for help.
Luke storms there as fast as he can with the pack of werewolves and with Clary’s mom Jocelyn because she refused to stay home. when they get there it’s too late. Clary and Jace are dead already. Luke and Jocelyn fight the vampires because they want to avenge Clary and Jace’s death. They both get fatally hurt and die side by side.
Also some of the wolves and other characters die in the same battle Magnus dies in because Magnus couldn’t help them.
The lesson to be learned is DON’T KILL MAGNUS. He is the center of the books the familiar character . He makes people feel safe in some ways.
P.S. I mean no offence to the characters or anyone else , just tying to make a point.

If Cassie is going to kill main character’s off, I hope to God that she kills the couples off together. I couldn’t stand it if any of them had to live without their other halves. I need a Romeo and Juliet thing to happen.
