Last month, THR reported that Sigourney Weaver was in talks to join The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes as the Inquisitor. According to entertainment.ie, the casting has been confirmed by director Harald Zwart at the European premiere of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.

It’s been confirmed, the wonderful Sigourney Weaver is on board to star in Harald Zwart‘s sequel to The Mortal Instruments. This one’s called The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes.

While there had been rumours recently of Miss Weaver’s involvement, Zwart confirmed mid interview with entertainment.ie yesterday that it is indeed a goer. “Yes Sigourney is on board, now you can break the story!”.

The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes is slated to begin filming in Toronto on September 23.

Same I saw it on opening day and I’m seeing it again with friends for my birthday! It was just too awesome to only see once!!!!! Oh, and welcome to the TMI family, it’ll be loads of fun!

  12. Wait, what? It’s happening, really? That’s great! I love that woman. I’m just confused. The BO numbers were low on day one.

  13. Does this mean they can’t cancel plans for a sequel? Because the Box Office numbers aren’t promising and I know they green lit a sequel, but I figured they’d scrap it. Does this mean they are still going to do it?

I’m over the moon she’s playing Imogen Herondale! Sigourney will make a great inquisitor! Screw the reviews for COB… It’s about what the FANS think! I can’t wait to see COB for a second time! And I’m even more excited now that COA is in full swing in terms of casting… I can’t wait to see who Maia will be played by! #BRINGONTHESEQUEL #FANBOYS

  15. Why are they going ahead with a sequel when they didn’t know how the first movie would do and now the movie is out it looks like it will not do I think if there is a sequel it needs a new screenwriter. I don’t know if this Jessica Postigo is related to someone important but I don’t understand why they didn’t get an established or respected writer to adapt the books. A lot of criticisms about the movie are about the dialogue, pacing, screenplay structure and some of the actors have mentioned that the script was constantly changing during filming. I looked her up on IMDB and she has 0 screen credits before this movie. Why would you hire someone with NO successful screenwriting experience to adapt something you want to be a successful series. Even Twilight’s screenwriter had written for some very well-known and successful TV shows.

    • It’s thanks to Jessica that Magnus is in the movie, she wrote the revised script and was part of why Magnus and Alec are still going to be a couple in the future. There is an article online about it somewhere.

      • That’s nice Magnus is in the movie but that doesn’t exactly solve all the other problems with the script. I’m sure they could have got a good, exprienced scriptwriter and s/he could have included Magnus too.

      • A bunch of dialogue from the movie is straight from the book, and that’s also thanks to Jessica. I think she did a great job, personally. And really, you shouldn’t judge a person on their credits. Every screenwriter had to start somewhere.

  16. Uhh i know her! She already filmed a Movie with Lily Collins.. I think she was the ‘woman with the baloons in the hospital’ from abduction … She’s cool. I like her. But… I actually don’t have to like her; she’ll be such a bi*** in CoA 😀

  17. Someone’s violent. Did you at least finish CoA? You realize Imogen had her reasons for being bitter and in the end sort of redeemed herself? Don’t hate the actress, either. Weaver is amazing.

    • Oh yes I finished CoLS three months ago. I still hate Imogen.
Sorry but I do. Also I don’t have a problem with Sigourney Weaver it’s just.. Meh whatever. Let’s hope she becomes a great Inquisitor.

  18. She’s perfect for the Inquisitor. 😀 Who’s going to be Maia?!?

  20. Can you Please hire a new Screen write.. maybe some one who did a harry potter screen write.. or buffy the vampire slayer.. or maybe someone who did hunger games.. i like the movie and it could be amazing.. but she needs help lol or just let cassie right it alone… i think jessica. tried and did okay but seriously we need someone new.. the only parts that killed me were clary at the end with the whole moving the room back together with her hands.. no why please why lol..action was good

I knew thus but horsy! Keep supporting tmi guys. I hope to see it again sat

  22. Just because they are casting CoA doesn’t mean the studio can’t cancel filming. We still need to convince people to see CoB to get the box office gross to be as high as possible. I really wanted this movie to be huge and I’m super disappointed that it didn’t have a great start. I’ve read reviews, but let’s be honest….when have critics positively praised anything that has a huge young adult fan following? Also someone said that the movie promotions were aimed towards fans. I think they were right. Mall tour…cool for fans…but why are they showing crowds of screaming young girls on the TV promo ads for the movie instead of the actual movie? If that doesn’t turn off non-readers or adults who may have gone to see it, then I don’t know what will.

I don’t hate Imogen. I used to think that she was too cruel, but I don’t hate her. She had lost her son, her husband, her daughter in law, and her unborn grandchild. In less than a year. I would be completely insane if I were she.
    Congratulations to Sigourney Weaver.

  24. She was just confirmed to star in Ridley Scott’s Exodus, which films in September. I wonder what’s up with that?

I am so thrilled that she is playing the Inquisitor! Not only is she a fantastic actress but she is well known and well liked!
Compared to Twilight and The Hunger Games, City of Bones had the WORST promotion ever and it was so unfair.
But regardless of that, I’m super excited for CoA! CoB was wonderful!

By the way… Does anyone else find it ironic that Lena Headey plays the role of the mother whos “children” want to screw each other? I didn’t notice this until after watching CoB for the second time.

    • I LOVE GoT as well, and I knew it was her, but I honestly didn’t make the connection until earlier today when I saw a Cersei gif about “you can’t be in a relationship with your brother (on FB)”. I started cracking up SO HARD.

  26. By any chance is there an open casting for maia roberts?
