Cover reveal: ‘The Iron Trial’ and an excerpt
Are you ready to see the cover of The Iron Trial from Cassandra Clare and Holly Black’s new middle grade series Magisterium?
USA Today hasn’t only shared the cover but there’s also an exclusive excerpt.
The five-book series, aimed at readers 8-12, features students at the Magisterium, an academy for those with a propensity toward magic. Clare says she had “a certain trepidation that I wouldn’t be able to capture a middle-grade voice, since I’ve only written for older teens. Working with Holly helped iron that out because she’s a middle-grade expert.”

Cassie added on her tumblr:
Aaron is in the center. Callum is on his left, and Tamara on his right.
The Iron Trial will be released September 9.
How cool is the cover/the excerpt and did you notice the sweet dedication to Holly Black’s son Sebastian?
I thought the cover was about to be revealed on May.
Great cover! It has a creepy atmosphere which I really like. It looks nothing like I’d imagined but then I forgot about the middle-grade aspect. So excited for the release!
I’m 37 and am super excited for this series. I love Holly Black and Cassie Clare’s vivid imaginations. A good story has no age limit.
I’m 22 and this seems great so far. So far the narrative style seems tobe of great quality with good vocbualry while effectively capturing the voice of middle schoolers or preadolescents. The plot and character development and tone and all the elements of fiction seem to be of high quality too. It doesn’t seem to dumb anything down but cassie and holly have seemed to ensure that the children in the age group will understand it. My piece of advice would as the this is a serie s and it’s supposed to finish when callum and friends are 17, would be for the narrative style to grow more advanced and grow with the characters to effectively capture the voice of the character at the stage and to grow with the readers 🙂
I apologize for the grammatical errors. I’m good with editing and with writing but I need to work on that. Earlier i meant to say, how my piece would be this. Due to this being a series of books in which it finishes where callum and friends are 17, the narrative style should grow more advanced and grow with the characters. This will allow it to effectively capture the character’s voice at that particular stage in life. This will also allow it to grow with the readers. 🙂

Looks interesting…..what do you guys think?
Seems very similar to Harry Potter… Two boys and a girl, a school for magic and there has alreay been stuff about Cassie copying HP with TMI and TID (which I do NOT agree with) but this is very coincidental
i love cassie’s writing and love tmi and tid, but i have to say that this looks so much like harry potter. i mean, a young boy that goes to a school for mages, that has a boy and a girl as friends? and when i found out the girl was a mage with no mage relatives it just screamed hermione, i’m sorry.
the cover is fantastic, though.
i want to read it
